Akebono Rotors with EBC 7000/6000 Greenstuff Pads
Hi All,
Looking to swap out pads and rotors that are close to biting the dust.
My mechanic is recommending we throw in Akebono rotors with EBC greenstuff 7000 fronts and EBC greenstuff 6000 rears or 6000s all around.
Any thoughts before I pull the trigger?
Any one have any experience using the EBC greenstuff 7000s Vs 6000s fronts? Worth the extra cost for the 7000s up front?
Thanks for your help!

Stock rotors and pads normally last 70K+. That's tough to beat both in price and performance. Pretty sure the others will cost more, last less and have same braking performance. Your call.

I was under the impression Akebono made the the OE rotors for the 5th gen for some reason.
Anyone know for sure?

Changed your post to reflect my experience, and because I was feeling lazy.

Going to be doing brakes on mine soon and will be going with stock replacement. Going to order online and save about $250 on al 4 wheels. Talking with the Toyota guys and they said to definitely get Toyota Pads and then a quality disc, don't get any cheap disk.

Stock brakes are great, but... they aren't so great for brake fade. After about 30 minutes of driving in LA stop and go traffic, the fade feel is definitely there.
I've heard EBC brakes are great against brake fade. Let me know if you do try it out.

Funny, I have a 2013 Mustang and just put the Brembos on it.
As for the 4Runner, I have been using the StopTech slotted rotors and Hawk LTS pads with good luck with past 4Runners and a Tundra.

@ 1engineer
Greg, looks like there's a flaw in the 15 post logic.

The EBC pads work great, but don't last near as many miles as factory. I think I'm running the 7000 series all around with stock rotors.

I've used the Brembo replacement rotors (not slotted or drilled) before with great results. The 3rd gens had warping issues and I had no problems when I switched over to the Brembos.

Thanks for the input everyone.
Will probably end up giving Akebono rotors and stock pads combo a go. I am more interested in longer life than marginally better performance at this point. I don't tow enough, drive enough in the mountains or carry enough weight to warrant stressing too much about fade at this point.
It has random rotors and pads I can't identify on it right now. Front rotors are a tickle warped. I'm guessing they slapped on the cheapest they could find before selling it, yet I have never been disappointed with the braking ability of this truck! The tires (especially the stock ones) have always been the weakest link, not the brakes, when panic braking.

i can see rotors lasting this long but pads til 70k+ miles? i'm assuming pads have been changed at least once or twice by then. during my 5k checkup, my front pads were already down to 9/12 so i would estimate around 20k would require change in pads (95% city driving).
