I hate to revive an old thread, but is anyone able to confirm whether or not we need to 'convert to 10mm straight ends' or not?

What is the best HD rear door strut for use with ladder
I ordered a pair of PM1062N10W for my 2016 4Runner. Perfect fit but I have one leaking after 8 months.

I have a 14 4Runner, and i needed to convert to the straight ends. The dealer initially sent me the curved ones by mistake and i can confirm that it does not fit.

Not sure which is the newest thread on this but my Gobi Struts are finally dying so I contacted Lift Supports Depot...
" The PM1062N10 has now been replaced by the PM3489 which work great. In stock "
I actually ordered them from Amazon for the same price just for the sake of simplicity.

I can confirm the new part # fits, I just installed them last week. Bonus: They hold the hatch up even with a half filled Trasharoo attached!

We have a 2010 and I ordered the 6156 struts but I did not know about the convert to straight ends option when doing so. The top side (gas housing) has angled rod ends. I am sure they charge a re-stocking fee but I haven't opened them.

Ya. Can confirm these worked perfectly on my 2017. Really easy install... 5-10 minutes max. Just need a small flat head screwdriver and something/someone to prop open the lift gate. I've got the C4 ladder, which necessitated replaced the struts.
Drafted up a quick review of the PM3489 here: Lift Supports Depot PM3489 Lift Gate Struts — Sheldon Chu Photography

Lift gate struts
This thread is helpful. Thanks for posting all the info everyone.
I have a Baja Racks ladder and still have the stock OEM lift struts. I got lucky I guess. It will drop and close when the tailgate is about one foot above the bumper, but it stays open once it's lifted.

Are these struts too much without the ladder?

Reviving this thread. I currently have PM3489 installed and they are great with the GOBI ladder, maxtrax, and even a half filled trasharoo. But when that trasharoo gets full, the hatch wants to come down again. My question is has anyone found a heavier duty gas strut for the rear hatch to handle more weight than PM3489? Possibly to handle what’s stated above plus a filled RotopaX or a shovel/axe?

Bump! I'm also looking for a heavier load strut than the PM3489. I plan to run a greenlane ladder with a 3gallon rotopax and trasharoo.

I haven't found anything. I've since moved the maxtrax to a different location and plan to put a rotopax on the ladder up high so that it's easier to open. If you go your route I recommend mounting the rotopax up high on the ladder.
