ARB type awning on factory roof rails/crossbars

I searched several ways on 5th gen and did not see anything. Expanded the search and found this thread on 4th gen.

Are awning on 4th gen - stock roof rack install hardware

Any input on this, particularly my post re 5th gen in the 4th gen thread.

That looks like a solid idea. Just make sure to use lock nuts. I'd also use good stainless hardware and anti-seize to minimize future disassembly woes, but I live in the rust belt

Thanks, having spent 24 yrs in the Navy and owning a house near Cape Hatteras for 45 yrs I know corrision and get the stainless part for sure. BTW Hoppe's MDL is great for corrosion control. Beats WD40 hands down as it does not form that varnish like coating that WD can over time.

I'm planning on doing something similar in the next month or so. I have seen some photos of U bolts for attaching as well.

Basically this. Same concept but a tweaked DIY version for our stock rack. I think it will work, if not, then just drill into the stock crossbars.

There is now a u-bolt scheme on the 4th gen thread using the fore/aft stock rail rather than just the 2 cross bars. That way more than 2 mounting points can be used to add more stability for attaching to a stock roof rack. Say use u-bolts mounts like here on each cross bar and add several u-bolt mounts along the fore/aft rail.

Question Awnings on 5th gen factory racks - No?

Doggone... I was sorta hoping I could someday get an Arb or other awning to attach to my factory roof rack - 2012 TE.

Sounds like this is not going to work?

If you add rhino rack vortex bars you could go for one of their awnings. I have their vortex bars and they are really solid, I'm likely going to add an awning soon.

I think the u-bolt scheme for the fore/aft stock rails shown in the 4th gen thread I linked to above, along with the u-bolt scheme shown in this thread that can be tweaked to work on the stock cross bars seems feasible.

My stock, 5th gen, rails are not round like tubing. Would the U bolts work for that still? I am about to buy the Rhino Rack Foxwing. I don't want to have to spend extra money on a roof rack now after spending $$$ on the Foxwing. Do you have photos of the after/installed awning on your stock rails?

I was planning on using t-nuts in the factory rails to bolt a square piece of aluminum that the awning will mount two. I don't have an awning yet and haven't played around with dimensions, but I was assuming that if I used a piece about 4" wide with 2 t-nuts into the factory rail it would be longitudinally sturdy enough.

I've sold a few of these that people have mounted onto their 4runner stock rails, then they bolt their awning onto these rails. Very simple.

https://www.amazon.com/Dobinsons-Uni.../dp/B01M0RQM0T

There are 3 pics in that page too of a white 5th gen that uses our rails. The L-bracket for the awning doesn't come with it. The awnings we sell come with those brackets though.

Roof Rail Mounts

Bringing this back from the dead...but my team and I are working on a roof rail mount to fit on stock roof rails so that you can attach awnings/lights/shovel etc. without the need of a roof rack.

Were in the process of testing them and will have a beta public test run in late-January. I wanted to see interest from fellow wheelers and to create an initial list of people that want a set. They will be at cost and mailed out as soon as they are completed. Designed and built in California, high quality materials.

If anyone is interested DM me with your name and number.
