Purchasing Advice

Hey guys, As I am searching for a 4runner, how bad is it to buy one that has an accident reported on its carfax? Carfax says: "Accident reported Involving front impact. It hit a parked motor vehicle. Front area primarily damaged". Would you guys stay clear of this? It looks clean and all but I never dealt with a purchase that had an accident reported. Thanks.

Is it a New 4Runner? If so then I wouldn't worry about it as long as they discounted it.
If it's used then I'd personally take it to a body shop and have them physically check for frame damage/etc.

IMO there's never any way to really know. Could take a long time for a less than stellar repair to reveal itself, or a small lingering problem to become a big one. All may very well be fine, but it would have to be an incredible discount to get me to consider it. With the low depreciation of these vehicles, I doubt one would ever be discounted enough for me.
They will almost always look good after repair, of course. That's just me, though. Good luck.

i've bought plenty of vehicles without clean carfax, you just have to make sure its priced appropriately for the lost value due to the history and then spend the money to have a good pre-purchase inspection. you may have to spend a couple hundred bucks to have the dealership look at it and a qualified body shop, but if you think its a good deal that's worth it.

if its not a great deal though i would just skip it, plenty of other 4runners on the market

(i would not do a salvage title or flood vehicle though, never)

As others said, as long as the price is discounted for it and the repair looks good. I bought a Honda Accord that had most definitely been in an accident--a pretty severe one from the looks of it. I got it at a good price and drove the wheels off of it without a single problem.

I'd steer clear of a salvage title, however.

Well, first thing I notice right off the bat is the front plate was installed without the factory bracket (probably destroyed) and put in the wrong spot and off center.
That alone would make me walk. Looks like a sloppy repair, if it was even repaired at all.

You can do better, imo

That is exactly something I wouldn't have noticed, thank you! Imdid find another one at a dealer that is certified and clean car fax with no accidents I will probably pursue. Its a 2014 sr5 with 13k miles listed for 29,985 right now. Been on their lot for 79 days so far so I may have some leverage to get them a bit lower or agree to an out the door price.

No problem.
Sounds like that one will be a better option. If not, walk on that one too. There are a lot of them out there. Be patient and make sure you find a good one

They are asking $30k, for that price, you might as well get a new one.

All the new ones near me are $35k or more, from what I checked. Unless there is a new one for around 32k, I would rather try to knock their price down from the $30k spot possibly
