Proper PSI for Bridgestone Dueler Revo 2 LT

Hi All,

I have Bridgestone Dueler Revo 2 LT Load Range E tires on my 2011 4runner.

Years ago, when I purchased the tires I did extensive research and wrote down that I need 46-47 PSI in each tire. I don't remember where and how I got this information. It might have been a chart and using the weight of the 4runner.

Each time I go for a tire rotation, they lower it to 32 PSI and insist this is what it should be. I would only use more air if I am pulling a load.

So, how much air should I put in these tires? I am not pulling anything. Did I misunderstand the amount of air needed for these LT Load E tires?

Thanks very much, Kent

Here's the quick and dirty version. Your truck came with p-rated tires. At 32psi, they have a weight load rating of X. X is ideally matched to the capacity of your 4Runner. When you add LT tires to the 4Runner and run them at 32psi, the load rating for the tires (@32psi) is less than X. To ensure that your load rating is equal or greater than X, you need to inflate them to a higher psi, Y. Y will be determined by the size, brand and model of tire you have. There are a number of different threads on the site that talk, bicker and argue about LT tires and the pressures associated with them. So, to answer your question; most guys with e-rated tires (myself included) stick around the 40-45psi range because your load rating at that pressure is high enough to be considered "safe" and it doesn't make the ride unbearable. If you kit your truck out full expedition style, you'll need to increase the tire pressure accordingly. Hope this helps.

I run 40 in my Toyo Load E everyday - if weighted down, 50.

Experiment - fill to 50 psi, drive for couple weeks, and work your way down - every kind of tire is a little different. I will not run load E under 38 on highway.

What size? If stock size, mid to high 40s is about right.

If you search for LT Load Inflation Tables, you will find tables that list pressure for load rating by tire size. LT tires require higher PSI to attain the same load rating of a P tire in the same size.

If a tire store is lowering stock size LT tires to 32 psi, they are ignorant.

My tire store set my stock tires to 41 instead of 32 as on the door sticker. Looks like the tire shops don't understand tire pressures and tire types. Like so many things, you have to do it or check it yourself.

Thanks everyone! Yes, the mechanics don't seem to know and I am somewhat surprised they wouldn't have heard about this somewhere. Some of them aren't young.

I am using the stock size so years ago I must have used a LT Load Inflation Table to figure out that I needed 46-47. I have been using that and feel fine about it. Perhaps the ride is a little stiff but it doesn't bother my family. The 4runner is luxury to us. We also have a Prius and the 4runner has so much more room when we take it on holidays.

I am glad that this time I insisted they leave the air pressure alone because every other time they lower it to 32 and then I just have to go fill it up again.

Thanks again, all.

Kent10 - remind them who the customer is. If you go to the shop for a rotate (whether you're paying or it was included in the purchase price - within which you have already paid), you tell them to leave the pressures alone. Period. If they balk, tell them you will write that instruction on paper and sign it so if a tire catastrophe occurs, they aren't responsible. They won't do that but it'll help make your point.

Even when my service writer notes on the ticket, some lower level tire handler just goes about his business without paying attention. If you find it before you leave - or if it's the next day - make em take it back around and air up to your preferred psi. Now THAT's inconvenient, but they'll stop what they're doing and get you out of there. Message delivered.

Wow. I'm in a weird mood this afternoon...
