$300 for a QUALITY paint job on your hood is about right. Quality work isn't cheap and really $300 to properly prep, paint, clear, your hood is not bad. Can you have it done for $100? Probably, but it'll also look like a $100 crap single stage Maaco paint job.

I thought there was a specific thread for people swapping hoods, but, can't find it. I'd be willing to part with my scooped hood, located in MN, 2019 MBM with just over 6000mi on it, kept in garage most of the time since I drive a work vehicle.
I wasn't looking for a scoop when I bought it, but I wanted the blacked out roof rails, no steps and no kdss, so, I got a scooped hood with it. Message me if interested

Nope, I'm not. Just smart enough to know you get what you pay for. If you're OK with a Maaco paint job, good for you. I would rather have old paint than a repaint that looks like trash.

What's a fair amount for painting a hood? I'm curious since I always heard you could expect to pay at least $300. If that's not the case that's welcomed news!

A fair amount is what you are ok paying. Talk to a few local body shops and get quotes.
Don't listen to the dumbass above.

So you're saying Maaco does good work? Shows you're a hack and have no clue what you're talking about. What do YOU charge to properly prep and paint a hood on both sides? Prep, prime, paint, clear, bake, buff. Not a POS single stage spray and push it out the door.

Guy talks a lot of BS but doesn't back up his claims Find a local body shop with a good reputation. Private shop, not junk like Maaco or something like that. Ideally you find a shop that does resto work and actually knows what real paint work is. Couple times I've had work done over the years I used a local mom and pop shop that builds hotrods and restos with $25,000 paint jobs on them that looked incredible. That's the kind of shop you trust, not some idiot that says he'll paint it for $100 That's when you get single stage trash that has nothing but orange peal in it and looks like garbage.

I went into a high-end auto paint store to pick up some SEM Trim Black paint for my valances. I saw two employees talking, so I introduced myself and asked what it would cost to paint a primered hood on a 4Runner. He said it depends on the color; if it's red, it might be pricey. If it's white he could do it for cheap. I said it's white and he looked to the other employee "that's 040 right?" I said yep it is. He said he could do it for $100. The other employee laughed and said "you're always low-balling yourself. He laughed and said "I don't care I don't have any employees to pay." So... I'm just going to go the painted route now.
A lot of people have said just buy OEM hood, which would put me about $6-700 out the door with paint. If I opt for the replica hood, that's $400 out the door with paint and all the guts. It's hard to beat that price! One user said the replica was perfect. Another user said the replica had some damage, so I'm not sure whether to take the gamble.

I live in Colorado and have a 2019 ORP premium in black. I'm looking to swap my scooped hood for a black SR5 hood. I have always garaged my car and had ceramic coat since 500 miles so it's still in good condition minus a few small knicks. Please reach out if you're interested.
