Utah in October

** I apologize, Mods, could you please move this to the correct place***So my friends and I are planning a week trip to Utah in the middle of October. As of now the plan is to drive from San diego out to the Great Staircase Escalante. There we will do some of the trails and then camp at one of the BLM spots. The next day we will head over to Bryce Canyon for a couple days there. Then Finish off in Zion for a couple days.

Looking for any input on:
Trail suggestions?
Camp site locations?
Places of interest?
Must sees?
Essentials to bring?

Any suggestions or advice would be great! Thanks in advance!
-Sean

Escalante

Headed there the end of Sept. ( a bit warm) on the way to Telluride and Silverton Area (great weather then). Going from Bad Water Ut. to Escalante and then east. The Kelly Grade is in the middle. Roads look easy but side tails may provide some more varied terrain. This was based on a friends recommendation that has been there a lot. Check out "Trail Damage Utah" - for a detailed list of trails and descriptions) .

Don't miss Capitol Reef - very mellow drive, great scenery. Great hikes too, if that's your thing. And be prepared for anything, October brings thunderstorms and the occasional snowstorm. Roads down there tend to be great when they're dry and terrible when they're wet.

Thanks! Definitely plan on hiking. I have been reading about how the weather is hit or miss around that time. I hope it isn't too bad.

Couple of ideas

Mid October should be nice and cool. Hiking the Narrows at Zion a must do, rent water shoes and walking stick right outside park. You hike up a stream it n an amazing canyon. Great off roading, Cottonwood canyon road east of Kanab a bucket list road. Also great roads out of the town of Escalante. Also consider Parashant on the way, Toroweep has great Grand Canyon overlook. Enjoy!
