Testing Panasonic Battery after 3.5 Years

I really thought the Panasonic Battery would bring back some better numbers after a few years but here it is. I noticed a serious lack in umph' over the last few months upon start, so I thought I would give the battery a test. As I tested the battery upon start, the voltage was dropping immediately to about 5-6 volts and then bounced back up to 14v. The battery should be bouncing down to about 10v and then back up to about 14v (sorry no pic or video on that - hard to get a shot of that instant where the truck starts). It is what it is, not every battery hits their mark. I went with the Odyssey 34 over the Odyssey 31 because of the terminal location, weight, and price.
Cheers.

Battery choice

Old post resurrection

Mr Brennan :

Did an eernternet searchy and found your review. Couldn’t really find any other review.... besides a northstar review... looks like my 2012 is (probably preemptive) gonna need a new battery soon....

How’s the odyssey battery holding up ?
I’ll more than likely make the purchase based on your answer..... needs that $12 space too? Yes ?

I don't have a long term review to help you out but: yes you will need the spacer. I have had the Odyssey for about 6 months and it has seen -30 to 100+ F temperatures and runs strong. You will also need to buy a voltage booster as the oem charging voltage is not sufficient and you will kill an AGM battery quickly without it. If you are looking for a good, simple OEM replacement, buy a higher-end normal lead acid type or the same panasonic OEM.

don't get an AGM battery unless you have a specific need for AGM

Thumbs up

Purchased Duralast Platinum 24F 710/885 CCA
$200. 3 year warranty . Autozone. Nice looking battery. Cool rigid handle.
I’m glad I was able to preemptively swap out the 8 year old original Panasonic battery.
Peace of mind.

It’s nice to know that swapping batteries can potentially cause these issues. There is a tool out there (battery pack maybe) that lets you keep all of your setting when you change the battery. A cheap version would be a set of jumper cables, a spare battery and a buddy. Loosen the lugs just enough to get them off, hook up the cables between the spare and the cars cables prior to pulling the cables off. Remove cables drop in the new battery, put the cables back on, remove jumper cables, tighten everything thing up. It should work without any problems I’d skip the pre-beer as there is a potential to damage things if you aren’t careful.
