Any rust issues on Gen 5? Beach rust prevention.

I live on the beach and only after 3 years I had bad rust issues on my 07 FJ Cruiser. I just bought a 16' Trail and want to do a preventive protection. Since I live on the beach its different rust issues compared to snow.

So
1. Any rust issues with 5th gen? If so where.
2. Anyone live on the beach and had rust issues.
3. Whats a good spray on rust protector. Should I go all out and do the inside frame and use POR or am I ok using something like this VVVV

Fluid film. Spray or brush it on semiannually. Start while it's new and it'll look new forever.

Fluid film is not hazmat so no environmental concerns. kinda smells funky for a few hours after application but that's it and don't mistake it for peanut butter if you rejar it into smaller workable mason jars for crawling around under the vehicle.
they sell a wand for internal frame coating which works like a champ too.

Boiled Linseed oil works great for an undercoating it’s cheap and you can buy it at Home Depot or Lowes. I have used it on my Tacoma for going on 12+ years and the frame and underside of the body still looks great and the bolts are not seized. Just drive your truck on top of a tarp put the boiled linseed oil in a sprayer and have at it. If you use boiled linseed oil it generally dries in a day or two but if you use just regular linseed oil it will remain tacky. My Tacoma has seen a ton of miles on P.I.N.S. and South Padre surf fishing for 12+ years and I just spray the undercarriage once a year with the oil and rarely rinse it off after coming off the beach. It has done far better than my last truck that had a Ziebart rust preventer. It may sound weird to use but it’s pretty much a mainstay of undercoating’s down here for people who spend a lot of time on the beach.

For the Exterior Klasse sealant works really well it last a long time and provides a nice long lasting coat of protection. While I don't live on the beach I can step out my front door and see the bay so I do get a lot of the crap salt mist in the air all the time along with extra high humidity. Any way hope this helps some...

I put fluid film on mine before the winter.

I sprayed the frame with por15 to give it an extra coat of protection (the spay can version, it goes on really glossy and nice) and also used Eastwood internal frame coating to do the inside. If you use eastwood make sure you get the black color because it "hides" better when it drips out out the frame holes you couldn't cover with masking tape.

I feel like that is probably the most that you would really want to do.

Exactly the issue with my FJ, it was the salt mist in the air gets a almost constant slow soaking. Ive had stuff in my house rust and guests wake up and ask if it rained last night. I was devastated to sell the FJ and with 20/20 hindsight I should've put money into fixing it and protecting it.
One other issue here here is the street runoff is pumped directly into the ocean, so even proper oil changes with no spills you can get fined for. One poor guy dropped a 1 gallon can paint and 5 different agencies all responded. So any protection I do will have to be away from my house.

Do you avoid spraying any areas with that boiled linseed oil (e.g. the exhaust system because of the heat)?

P.S. Don't forget the respirator and eye protection if you're using that boiled linseed oil as a spray.

We have the same problem here we run 2 big dehumidifiers in our house and run them a lot and it's crazy how much water they can collect in just a few hours. Also our city storm water system does the exact same thing and they have been known to throw big time fines out as well. This is why I spray it down on a tarp to catch all the run off so no mess but I still do it the privacy of my garage so not to upset the neighbors.

I never spray the exhaust but it always tends to get on it any way and I think it's going to torch my truck but it just smells and burns off it! So far lol.... I also use a bug sprayer this keeps it far away from my face plus you can stick it in holes in the frame and up the sides of the body to get really good coverage. Also if you don't clean out the sprayer you can chunk it because once the linseed oil sets the sprayer is toast.

Thanks for the mention of the eye protection and respirator I forgot to mention that part!

I'm in a very salty area. Hatteras Island NC which is well out into the ocean and only about a mile or less in width in most places, lots of driving on the beach fishin' and Hampton VA right on the Cheasapeake Bay looking NE out an inlet. Vehicle not garaged.

'85 Jimmy went 15 yrs, trans failure, and a little rust starting to come thru rocker panels and rear fender wells? Probably could have helped that rust if I had kept drain holes more clear of sand. '04 4Runner went 12 yrs, transfer case failure, and a little rust starting on frame, particularly at front tow/tie down hooks.

All I ever did was run frequently thru a car wash with a good chassis wash. One that really had a hard spray and drive in very slowly so the spray hit the bottom for as long as possible.

That's it. Even if I did a spray, I'd still do the frequent wash, if for no other reason than the brake calipers, which if left salty can quickly seize up.

if you routinely spray-wash the undercarriage you'll probably be fine.

if you periodically apply Fluid Film you'll probably be fine.

if you routinely spray-wash the undercarriage and periodically apply Fluid Film you'll definitely be fine.
