New 2017 / 16 Trail KDSS or previously owned 2011 Trail KDSS
Hello good friends !!!
1. A new 2017 / 16 Trail Base with KDSS ( by base I meant no sunroof nor fake leather, etc... ) Magnetic color.
2. My previously owned 2011 Trail Shoreline Blue KDSS with CAI, TRD wheels/Duratrac, and Thule Cargo basket. ~ 50k miles or so.
?
Yep. The person who I sold her is interested in selling her back to me. I am about to buy my next 10 year car... and it is going to be a 4Runner.
Post / suggest all you can think of... and I only have one question:
Do they newer, post 2011 models, come with better/more noise insulation ?
Have awonderful week !!!
Cheers, and thanks a lot !!!!

Unless finances are a concern, I personally would go with the 16/17 without a doubt. That will bring you a warranty, nice new truck, and the blank canvas to do with it what you want...
The older 4Runner will obviously be cheaper initially and you somewhat know the history, so that's a plus... And it already has some aftermarket parts coming along with it..

The main things I dislike about my 2012 are still issues on the newest ones weve test driven... shaky flimsy hoods, twitchy steering and overly sensitive front ends that shake/vibrate with the slightest tire mis-balance, cheap silver plastic bezels on the interior that scratch just by looking at them.

Sounds more like a Toyota manufacturing issue for the 5th gen.

I always love (hate) threads like this.
I know, I know... You are fielding opinions (for whatever reason) but I don't have to live with the decision, you do.
Just go with your heart man and live with that decision.

With money not being an issue (and we can only assume so since it wasn't mentioned) - I'd go with that NEW NEW.

If the guy who I sold my 4th gen to offered to sell it back to me, it would take a LOT of will power not to do so, so I understand the struggle. However, you don't know exactly how well they've maintained it, driving habits, etc that have happened to that truck over the last couple years of their ownership.
Unless the financial aspect is a big factor, go newer. Warranty/peace of mind/etc.
Besides, the 14+ don't have that awful orange back lighting in the instrument cluster. Was by far my least favorite aspect of my 4th gen.

By this logic, you have 5 years use of one and 10 years use of the other. So ... whatever that's worth to you.

I love the old school instrument cluster myself. Very functional. But the trail editions never had it ;-(

Thank you very much y'all !!!
Y'all have very valid points. Well, the previous owner do not want to sell her back to me, so there you go, onto a new one.
Now, the question is that KDSS is impossible to get and has to be ordered, probably a 2017 and will be here until Jan. A Trail Base w/o KDSS is ready.
KDSS or not KDSS !
;-)
Cheers,
G.
