My bumper is being replaced by Toyota dealer at this right moment due to this issue. This is second time they are replacing it and third time trying to get it fixed.
Last time Toyota certified tech did the fix and it was ok for about 5 months and then both sides came out again.

It seems like that just a slight pressure on bumper by even a power wash can cause the sides to com out.

Whatever your dealer is telling you is just a BS and they wont be able to help you much unless you call Toyota directly and ask them to have certified tech doing the repair. The name of Toyota rep that I have been working with is Julie and she has been very professional and helpful in all 3 cases.

On each occasion I am told that it is a known issue and they are trying a different part to get it fixed.

I'm not a huge fan of the way Toyota designed the bumper skin to attach to the body. I've had my skin off a number of times for various mods and the little plastic wing which slots into a clip on the body is very flimsy, and now since I have a plate bumper which necessitated cutting the stock skin, the attachment point is even smaller. One of these days I'm going to glue some Velcro in there to hold it.

Am I the only one reading these reports wondering why so many peoples' "bumper to bumper warranties" aren't covering their...

... bumpers?

2016 here - same issue

Got the same damn issue - dealer in Indy blew me off at last oil change.

Will be in raising hell before warranty expires, effin $40k for this thing and they can't get the bumper cover right...

Different but similar; I have continued issues w/ my driver side front quarter panel trim piece popping off (right above the wheel well).

It's been replaced twice by warranty; growing tired. But same deal, the clips don't hold and the two sided tape can't keep it snug against the wheel well.

Would you happen to have a number? They're picking up my truck today to take it to the dealership which is 1.5 hours away. I definitely don't want them rigging up some BS on it to hold it temporarily. I'm going to make sure they don't bring it back until it is replaced.

Toyota has opened a case for me...

I'm wondering if someone can start a POLL on here to check on the Limited/5th Gen's to see if their bumper covers are popping out at the corners. They seem to have started to take me seriously as they just keep replacing parts on the vehicle and it isn't fixing it.

2016 Limited

I'm having this issue also. I bought my 14 limited last month and it's doing the same thing. They say, I have to take it to their body shop to look at it. They seem to be booked up when I'm in town(travel for work). Gonna have to wait until Thanksgiving to get it looked at by them.

Let me know if there has been any solution to this. It sucks to pay 35k plus for a car that has appearance issues that are no fault of the customers. I’d like to add that I’m not putting any blame on the dealership either. This seems so common that its a Toyota problem. Called in. They are gonna look at it tomorrow morning.

I just noticed the passenger side of my 2015 limited front and rear have those issue. I thought someone hit me but there are no markings anywhere.

I tried pushing it with my hand but can't get the clips to catch and it pops out again.

I may ask the dealership to take a look at it before my warranty ends in a few months.

I had a 2016 trail which had a broken clip in the paseenger and a 2016 Limited in the driver side. A used 2016 on a dealer lot had both sides with the issue. My dealer says they get several complaints weekly. This is definitely an issue

My 2018 had driver's side pop within 6 months. Dealer fixed, "will take hours", and now it is popped again.

2018 4Runner Limited Edition

I have the same problem with my brand new 4Runner. I took it 4 times to get it repair, they replaced the clippers, replaced the bumper, glued the bumper and after all that my bumper now looks worst. The bumper has a different color tone, there’s a large amount of glue on it and now it looks horrible. Definitely not worth the $1000 monthly payment. Two months ago I file a lemon claim. Toyota wants an inspection, waiting for them to schedule a date. Nervous, I see a lot of 4Runners with the same issue on the streets but can’t find any lemon law claims.
I’ll keep you updated.

I also have this issue, have asked the dealer to fix it twice and it hasn't worked.

Toyota is aware of this issue, no matter what they say.

2017 Limited here. I have the same problem. Push it back in every other day. Hopefully they acknowledge and fix it. Frustrating on a 40k car.
