New Rhino Rack Rail Mount System
I was at Overland Expo East last weekend and created quite the wish list but one thing that intrigued me was a new product from Rhino Rack. If you are considering an Al rack you need to check out the new rail mount for the 5th Gen from Rhino Rack (same as they have had for the FJ). First off, I'm an idiot for not getting pictures but in my defense it was pouring rain. The mount is similar to the FrontRunner rack rail but it is a solid piece with ca. 1.5" diameter circles cut out for the entire length and it looked awesome. They had two versions on display, a full length and the one that I liked was a version for those with a sunroof that stopped just short of the sunroof. They indicated that the two on display were prototypes but they should be available soon. If anyone took a picture of either, post them up (edit, thanks Simpleman74). If you haven't seen them on an FJ, check them out below.

That's it, thanks. Nice to have another option for the 5th Gen.

Saw this on IG and did a double-take. Looks like a solid option.

Spoke to Rhino-Rack. They stated this setup should become available as a complete kit this Holiday Season. Excited to get one of these when they become available.

Hopefully full rack without drilling front feet.

Per Rhino Rack, you will still need to drill the front area. They are using their proven track system, which requires the OE rails removed and rev-nuts install up front where no mounting points currently exist. They claim, it will not pull up the body like some of the Gobi etc. options currently on the market. They stated their track system distributes the weight more evenly to avoid damaging the vehicle.

I guess a few guys have had issues where the way Gobi and Baja Rack mount to the roof, it has actually bent/pulled the sheet metal up causing permanent damage. Search on the forum and you will see what I am talking about.
Not to hi-jack Rhino Racks great stride forward with this setup, but if you are looking for a large platform style rack that extends the full 91" of our 4runners roof... Check out the K9. I think that is the route I am going, and it utilizes the Factory mounting points not requiring any modification to the roof! Equipt sells it for just shy of $1300- shipped.

Ditto. If I were to do it again, I'd go with K9. Seems like the best option for not drilling.

Rhino Racks are awesome, but I've never heard of this issue at all.

Does only know if the only racks they will make are going to be flat like that? Really looking for a basket style but have my reservations about Gobi and it seems Camel doesn't have the man power to meet demand.

yaaaaay! I was just about to order a front runner, but I love rhino rack and already have a few of their accessories (I'm using their sx vortex bars right now). I had been hoping this would happen....and it did!
