4Runner - 1 Wild Hog - 0

I took my one month old 4Runner to Lost Maples State Park here is central Texas. I got off to a late start on Friday after work and had a feral hog jump under my wheels to his death enroute to camp.

Airbags did not deploy, and it went under both axels. The bumper cover has a little tear and it ripped one of the fender screw mounts through the bumper in the fender liner.

While the hit was like going over a speed bump at 50mph, the truck drove straight the rest of the trip.

I've looked up the part (bumper cover) and its only 220 bucks, how much would it cost to get a reputable shop to paint it? I have a high($1000 )deductible.

Lower that deductible and wait 20-30 days and file a claim then... Joking... Or am I?

Anyways just be on the lookout for people putting aftermarket bumpers on in your same color and ask to buy their OEM piece.

I'd say $300-400 for standard colors from a quality shop. Call around though. Some shops are hungrier than others. Just be sure to check reviews.

If you're going to claim the damage, have it looked over. Depending on how big your porky friend was and the physics of the impact, the aluminum bar under the cover may have taken a dent.

That sucks but could have been much worse. There are some giant pigs running around here that would have messed up your truck and forced it to take a ride on a wrecker.

I had 2 close calls between Comfort and Kerrville with those things. One on the back roads and one on interstate. They are much faster for their size than people realize. Glad to hear that you made it out mostly unscathed.

...maybe it is time for a new bumper? There are plenty of good aftermarket ones for less than your $1000 deductible...

...maybe I should raise my deductible. ...hmm...

Most people outside of the Central Texas area have no idea what a javelina is. So, we tend to call them "wild pigs" for the uninitiated.

Still, yeah, they are javelinas, and they are delicious!!!

It was a Javelina, I saw its carcass on the side of the road on my way back home yesterday. I would say that it was probably around 100lbs maybe a little heavier.

I started pulling up after market bumpers when I got home and the ones I like look to be around ~1500, maybe I can find a deal during black friday.

I was not thrilled with the looks of the front end when I got it, but it has really grown on me over the last month and 1/2.

I was thinking that if I had been driving any other of my vehicles it would have been much worse as the extra height really helped.

I had my dog with me in the front seat and when we hit and went over it, it really freaked her out.

For the next hog, go ahead and price out what it will cost to lower your deductible. I dropped mine from $500 to $50 for my comp plan and the cost difference was just a few dollars per month.

here's the best recipe for a Javelina i've found:

take your javelina, and dig a hole about three times the size of the critter. (Think Hawaiian Luau)

Place the javelina in the hole. This is the important part, the one that makes it taste so good!

Fill that sucker in and go buy a nice tasty steak somewhere.

outside of sausage, and blending with other meats and fats, javelina does not taste good at all. (And yes, I have never cut the scent gland on top and spoiled the meat)
