How to wire rock lights to come on at unlock and with a switch?
Just got the rigid rock light kit and I'd like to wire them so that they are switched with illumination and dimmer as well as they come on when you first unlock the car and the puddle lights and forward dome lights come on.

Sounds like you'll need to tap into the circuit that powers up the lights when you hit unlock, put a one-way diode inline so that you don't back-feed that circuit, then feed it to a relay for your new rock lights.
Add a switch that also feeds the same relay and done.

I've got an AOB switch already, I was really looking for which circuit that is in the interest of saving time searching. you wouldn't happen to know which wire I can tap into within the cab?

Following how this progresses as I'm interested in doing something similar with the dome lighting.

Why not just tie your (BLK) ground-side wire of your system harness relay to be Triggered by your 'Center Console Cigarette lighter' GND wire (Black/white)... That becomes active (Live) when you start the vehicle, so your LED relay will start it's load when the vehicle starts! ...you can even place an AOB switch in the dash for when don't care to utilize your LED when the truck starts(?)!

All very good suggestions and thank you very much for responding. I'll be doing some more reasesrch and prepping my auxiliary fuse block this week so it will be a little bit before I get it installed. Just wanted to let anyone know who is waiting. I'll try to get the rock lights installed next weekend and will provide a somewhat detailed write up of how I ended up wiring them. If anyone else has any good suggestions please fil free to throw them up here!

Tapping the dome light would probably be the easier way to go. I was just thinking about this last night. The puddle lights on the mirror maybe hard to access being in the door.

If you wanted to tap into the wires right at the lights, then yes, they would be hard to access. But the wires will surely go into the kick panel on the passenger and driver side, and into a junction connector from there. You may be able to pop the sail panel off behind the mirror to see what color the wires are coming from the mirror lights. After you find the color, look for it in the kick panel.
To the OP- I just did this on my FJ40. When I use the keyless entry, my rock lights light up (hooked to dome light output from keyless brain unit). I also have a switch on the dash that turns them on. There is a diode between the switch and brain so I don't fry my keyless system.

Jetranger: Sounds like you have the perfect setup for the lights. Any idea if the FJ40 is negatively switched like the T4R? What kind of switch did you use?

I wired the complete car myself, so I chose positive switching. The DEI brain unit I chose has a jumper so you can go between neg and pos dome light output.
I used an OTRATTW switch (about 20 of them in total), and 2 3a diodes from Radio Shack.

If you tap into your interior lights and they dim when going off be ready to a short life and a buzzing relay. I did this on my Jeep JKU with LUX rock lights. I made a youtube video showing how I overcame the buzzing relay.

I found the AMP research running board install guide. It has lights that come on with the lock/unlock on the fob. Check page 7 it outlines the wires to tie into although those are only the trigger wires you have would have to find out where the other wire gets tied. I haven't done this install myself but someone who has done it in a 2014+ can you please chime in on the wire colours for us?

I may have jumped the gun on this one as I believe this operates with the door ajar signal not door unlock...can anyone comment on the dome light wires and where they can be easily tapped?

I would include a way to shut off the auto rock light functions. Some police do not appreciate aftermarket lighting. No need to provoke further inspection.
Be sure to use a relay to trigger the rock lights. Fuses and diodes are a good idea.
