False. The F-Bodies were discontinued due union and plant issues with Canadian production facility.

BOF SUVs are more or less dead, but if manufacturers aren't held at gunpoint to gas mileage standards for the next 8-10 years, at least we won't see any pruning of existing models. If the market is any indication, most sane Americans don't want anything to do with small cars and continue to buy BOF SUVs and trucks.
We've already felt the pain from eco gearing, gutless transmission shift points, and an ECM that doesn't seem to understand what it means to bury the gas pedal.

Howdy neighbor. I'm just south of Baptist Rd. I read this week that Ford has told Emporer Trump that fuel economy standards are killing profitability. Industry is seeking relief.

Just a note, the 4Runner outsold the Colorado/Canyon twins in January by around 4K units. Just sayin'.

AP story from 2001:
Quote:
GM blamed the demise of the Camaro and Firebird on a 53 percent decline in the sports car market since 1990. Even the muscle cars were not strong enough to beat back the growth in popularity of sport utility vehicles and pickup trucks.
More than four million Camaros have been sold since it was introduced in 1967. Its peak year was 1978 when 260,201 were sold, but last year sales dwindled to just 42,131.
The Firebird's best year was 1978 when 175,607 were sold. In 2000, though, sales were just a tad over 31,000.

Would be interested in a 3-way table showing 4R, FJ, and GX sales during the same period 10-15 year period. Obviously there are other competitors, but I wonder if these three are borrowing from each other out of a steady demand for the BOF SUV.*
*And of course, would be interesting to compare against the Wrangler and Grand Cherokee, etc., to see if there are other trends in the market for similar vehicles.

No it's not interesting at all. FJ and GX never sold high volumes. They robbed from the 4th gen sales more than 5th gen. 15K was the highest FJ sales YE since 2010. Slightly increasing trend? That's like saying the temperature difference between January and July shows slightly warmer trend lol.
I have compared 4Runner to other SUV's multiple times, including the first post in this thread. BTW you know you can look this stuff up and contribute to this thread also right?

I hit refresh on the Toyota Press Release page and it popped up. I'm getting it straight from the horse's mouth nowadays.

Well I appreciate the update! Now all those front end haters can see the 4Runner is even more popular than ever.

Second highest month for sales, just a few hundred off from Dec 2016, in a short month (28 days vice 30/31).
Averaged what, 389.7 per day?

Oh and
@ 1engineer
...don't for one second think that you got away with stealing likes from me.
I see through your thinly veiled attempt. By forcing all of my updates into one thread, created by you, you have in effect stolen my like machine and directed at yourself.

Yeah that will be about 49 4Runners per hour if only running one shift. Two shifts is 25 an hour or about one 4Runner built every two minutes! Pretty amazing.
