TRD Pro with Bilstein suspension or TRD Off Road with KDSS?
Still evaluating these two models and trying to decide which one to get. I currently drive a 4th Generation SR5 and don't have experience with either the Trail or the TRD Pro. I'm leaning toward ordering a Pro over an Off Road (Trail) but I know that KDSS isn't an option on the Pro. My question is, will I even miss not having KDSS on the Pro and is there a major difference in ride handling, comfort and road performance between these two models. I currently own a non KDSS rig and the ride at times as well as body roll can be a little rough. Any input from those who've owned one or both of these models would be appreciated.

just search, its been discussed a lot. KDSS just depends on your preference, not even worth worrying about until you test drive both and decide if you want it or not.

Both will ride better than a stock 4th gen SR5. KDSS will be better for hwy driving. But like most will tell you, go drive them and then decide, can't go wrong. Good luck

Trail of course with or without KDSS, their cheaper and with what you save you can buy way better shocks (and tires) for your truck
and well apparently TRDP rear shocks are starting to leak...
Who else has two leaking TRDP rear shocks?
I am curious how many other TRDP's that is happening too.

Why not get the TRD off road with Kdss then add the bilstein 6112 front shocks with either 5100 or 5160 rears. Then you have the best of both and save ~ $5k.
If you want the full look...
Bilstein 6112/5100 $1,000
Install and alignment $500
TRD rims $750
TRD front valence $600
TRD skid $250
Now you still have $2k to either put in the bank or play with In other mods.

I'm curious too. There seem to have had issues with the aftermarket 5160's as well which are the same design.
When will the Bilstein 6112 be released?

IMO - if you want one of the unique color options on a TRD Pro - get it. Otherwise the Trail with KDSS is the best option. I'll take a Trail with KDSS and Fox or King shocks over a TRD Pro any day both on road and off. You'll notice the Land Cruiser, and GX 460/Prado all have KDSS, and the original TRD Pro show trucks had it, but it got deleted for production. Plus the Trail w/KDSS and Fox suspension ends up cheaper. Plus you get a premium it has heated seats, heated windshield, heated mirrors, softex seats, sunroof, and a few other things. But i do love that orange color.

When I got really into the nuts and bolts of the whole thing the TRD Pro lost all interest for me. Its NOT like the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon with extras that either cannot be added later or added at an extreme cost.
The TRD Pro is really just a package of bolt on options and custom color. If that works for you great ... get it and pay the price. Just remember there is nothing special about the Pro.
If that doesn't work get an TRD Off-Road or Premium and do the work yourself. You'll save money and get exactly what you want. Instead of what Toyota thinks you should have.

My .02, If resale value is of any concern, and you don't want to change shocks and tires on a brand new vehicle to go off road...get a TRD PRO. If your going to heavily mod it anyway...get a loaded SR5.

Thanks for all the great advice. I'm actually not interested in the cement color and would be opting for a super white TRDP. I saw a YouTube video recently that had Right Toyota in Scottsdale modifying a TRD Premium Off Road into a TRD Pro. So, it got me thinking that maybe I might just get a TEP with KDSS and have a dealer modify it into a TRDP. Has anyone on here had any experience doing this? Did the finished product end up costing more than a TRD Pro when you were finished modding it out?

It was a no brainer for me to go trail with KDSS.
Now when we got the Wrangler a couple years ago we got a Rubicon because it's not realistic to make a non Rub. into one.

Agreed and just depends what you are planning to do w/the rig..a lot here mod-out rigs and run them hard or some not at all. I have a TRDP, however I was looking for a TEP when hunting at the time but could not find one....really? Funny enough, a TRDP showed up close in the Southeast at the time and I was able to pick it up for almost what I would have paid for the TEP w/added TRD cosmetics. Right time..right place for sure..
So, if you fortunate to find a TRDP 3k+ under MSRP then go for it but if you just want to do mild mods...go for the TEP all the way..and mild mods for me would be like an upgraded Bilstein lift/tires and TRD cosmetics...my thougts

One thing to be aware of is a lot of dealerships wil not do suspension modifications to kdss equipped vehicles.

Serious kdss problem
But what does it take to fix it?
OP lots of reading to do but enjoy the process, it's a sweet dilemma to have.
