Just purchased a 2020 TRD Pro which sadly didn't come with the tray. Asked the dealer what it would cost to put one in and they priced the parts and install at $2500. Based on this particular thread that sounds insane, but looking for a sanity check.
Thanks in advance! This forum has been super helpful so far.

It’s not insane as that’s the cost of all the components separately, which is why it’s better to get it as a port installed option. Your best bet is to do what the rest of us are doing. Search desperately for someone giving up a tray and hope you’re the first to send a PM.

The trays are definitely a love-hate thing, and even if someone is on the love side of things they will be selling it if they install drawers. Be patient and one will turn up eventually. It really makes no sense to pay the part-by-part price for one. For that kind of money you can get an aftermarket drawer or tray upgrade that is far superior.

I might sell mine eventually, waiting to see how much dog hair I have to clean out of the rails on a regular basis...that was the main reason I didn't want it initially but it was an option on the only available 2020 AG TRD Pro in my area so I got it anyways.

Has anyone replaced the sliding cargo tray with just the factory/stock floor?
I got rid of my cargo tray a few years ago when I installed Goose Gear drawers, but now I’m going to be selling my truck, and am getting some things back to stock. Given how hard it is to find a sliding cargo tray, I’m fine just putting in the stock flooring. That said, I can’t even find the part number yet for the regular flooring, or even what I need!
Thanks.

Although my rig (2016 SR5) didn't come with one from the factory, I found myself squarely in the "love it" crowd so I decided to take matters into my own hands. With a little help from another forum member (Thanks jrob!) I was able to source a complete deck kit as he had just installed a drawer system in his Trail Edition and didn't need the parts anymore.
This was an easy "one banana" job in my opinion. Total time spent was less than an hour and it fit like a champ.
Without further ado, here goes....
Parts needed:
COMPLETE sliding tray assembly - all of it. You will need:
- under tray carpet liner
- sliding rail sub assembly
- horizontal storage box and cargo tie downs (you can't use your original ones)
- cargo tie down brackets (2x) to reposition the tie downs (see pics)
- sliding tray itself (duh)
- Carpet liner (1x)
- carpeted access covers (2x)
- all mounting hardware
If you buy one from someone who has taken theirs out make sure you get EVERYTHING. You will truly need it all as nothing from my SR5 was able to repurpose to the new deck. (Thanks again jrob - you are a bad-a$$ for making sure I had all that I needed - much appreciated).
Tools wise:
- Socket wrench with 10mm, 12mm and 14mm drivers (i.e. the 3 most used drivers on a Toyota)
- Flat head screwdriver (the larger the spade the better)
- Drill with 2-3 bits ranging from 5mm to 10mm in size
- 1 beer or coffee depending on time of day (or something else if you don't like the hard stuff)
|
Just swapped mine. Only thing I will add if you are REMOVING the sliding cargo deck the access panels on top need to be popped up starting at the front. The rearward portion slides in. I agree with the original poster it’s a 1 Banana job.

I am looking to purchase a complete slide setup if anyone has one they want to part with. In the meantime I will keep a eye out at wrecking yards. I’m in the Dallas area.
Thanks

Question? My wife's 2012 4runner has this rear tray and my 2016 does not. If I want to swap them for each other, will my carpet, hook etc etc. fit back into her without issues? Basically is it part for part swap?

Yes to all of those questions. Just make sure you swap everything down to the floor pan. The only actual thing you have to do besides swapping parts is to drill through your 2016’s floor to get to the nuts welded on the underside that the sliding mechanism bolts into. I used the sliding mechanism as a template to find the right location to drill, but you could also come up from below if you remove the spare tire.
Sounds like a perfect way to kill of an afternoon to me.

I have a complete assembly that was in a 2012 Trail Edition for about 6 months. I purchased all of the oem parts to go to a flat floor. My dog Carrier was too tall to fit in cargo area with slider.
Will sell for $400. Am in Louisville Ky area.

Where were you 3 weeks ago? I would've driven to Louisville to get that. Mine only cost more than twice of what you're asking once I shipped it from CA.

As much as I trade vehicles, I might. It's really kind of embarrassing.
