Caster question for ICON UCAs
Hi all,
I use to have LR UCAs on my 2011 SR5 that was recently totaled. I am now working on building a 2016 with a full Icon stage 2 with tubular UCAs. I do not have my spec sheet from the old alignment anymore but I thought you needed to adjust the LR UCAs caster as close to 5 as possible to eliminate rubbing the frame (correct me if I am wrong). Is this the same with the tubular Icon UCAs or are they different and need to be closer to stock specs? Just trying to eliminate a bunch of alignment/adjustment back and forth. Thanks.

There is no adjustment on the tubular UCAs themselves. They are fixed position. You still want as much caster as you can get.. but this is only done by adjusting the LCA cam bolts.

Interesting. I wonder If I should get the LR UCA's again? May be easier to mess with.

you should be able to get all the positive caster you need with the ICON tubular UCAs. (depending on how big your tires are, of course.)
i know plenty of people run the LR/SPC UCA without issue, but jeez... bushing redesign after bushing redesign ad nauseam — and then reports and photos of broken welds! no way.

Very true on the bushings. I went through bushing after bushing with the old UCAs. I am going to run the same tire wheel combo I had on the 2011, 285/70/17 Duratracs on the Konig Countersteer 17/8 wheels. If I can get all the positive caster I need with the Icon's then I will stick with them.
Thanks for the input. Much appreciated.

Unless you're trying to run 34" or 35" tires I would say 5° of Caster is on the high side for a standard 3" suspension lift (I am running 6.1° on my 4th gen, but I am also running 35's). Usually most people fin 4° to be plenty good and give them plenty of freedom. The tubular UCAs have a "built-in" Caster compensation, so they should add I believe something like 1.5°~2° of Caster to the vehicle to help bring the measurements more inline with factory after lifting.
