Worth the Money?

JW,

When would you guys say it is worth the money to go with Icon over a Dobinsons or OME hand picked LT set up?

I trying to justify if an extra $1000 is worth Icon LT set over Dobinsons LT set up.

Same UCA, same bumpstops, same extended brake lines. Difference is right at 1K between both.

Im sure if i searched for hours on here I could find 52300 results but wanted to new info.

Thanks in advance.

What are you trying to acomplish here OP?
Type of driving & expectations?

Its a little vague too... ICON has different types of shocks and with different features. What are we comparing here for a 1k difference?

Also when did ICON start making long travel? I thought all they made was mid-travel stuff. Are you using a different company lower control arm?

This is the first time I have come across Dobinsons so I can't comment on them. Id consider resale value too, I think people around here would jump on something ICON vs Dobinsons.

At the end of the day everyone's needs are different... as long as the shock and features meet your applications needs then go for it.

Sorry, mid travel front on both. I meant LT rear set up not full LT. I'm just wondering people experiences.

I didn't know Icon made a rear long travel either, can you post up a link? As far as I know Metaltech originated it and Dobinson just broke out on the scene in the US with one. You'd have to check with Dobinson but I believe their running twin tube rear shocks for long-term dependability, whereas Metaltech is using rebuildable 2.5" shock bodies. Big performance difference but big cost and maintenance difference as well. Others have done their own variants too. If you're unsure of going twin tube or more of a "race" shock, there's tons of info available online and on this site to help you determine what the best option is for you! Or just call the vendors and chat.

Are you selling grandchildren???

Also, do you happen to know of any foreign heads of state that have some issues with bank accounts? I could give them my accounts to deposit their monies in...

But i still want to know what/who grandchildren you are providing... sounds like an FBI thing

The question is, are these grandchilderen worth the premium over a Dobinson's setup?

I'll go Dobinsons/Bilstein over Icons any day of the week. Regardless of price.
