Quick Post Install Question

this might not be the best place to post this question, but I'm thinking since these kits are listed for sale in this thread, it can't hurt.

I just had a Stage 2 kit with Billet UCA's installed by 4wheel Parts about 2 weeks ago and it's barely broken in. Everything seems fine and I love it, that said, it's pretty squeaky and creaky. By that, I mean, when I step down out of it after a ride it creaks like a wooden pirate ship as the springs reset themselves.

Is that normal? I'm just wondering if there is anything binding that is creating that noise that I should be concerned about, or it that's just the way these are?

Thanks for any advice you can provide.

Not normal, dollars to donuts they either didn't grease the bushings or they tried to grease after everything was torqued down and grease didn't make it into the bushings.
ask me (and my torn bushings) how I know
Get those things lubed up!

I figured it had to be something like that... My next question is, does this mean it has to be taken apart to be corrected? and dumb question #2: Which bushings? are you talking about the bushings in the UCA?

Do you have any pics of your torn bushings? That would really help me make my case.

Last, I have to say the crew at 4WheelParts seem like some decent guys, BUT I don't have a lot of confidence in their techs. Case in point: I discussed with the sales guy up front and reinforced this point at least 3 times, last when I dropped it off to be worked on. I was very clear that if any of the tires needed a lot of weight to be balanced, I wanted a new tire, period... So I get over $7K worth of suspension, wheels and tires done and they give it back to me with a tire that needed FIFETEEN OUNCES of weight to balance! If I didn't ask, they'd have left it that way. I got a new tire...

I don't have pictures, but yes the UCA's are the bushings I mean specifically. The whole system needs to be greased though. If it has a zerk fitting, it needs grease. If the bushing tears, in addition to squeaking and creaking you'll start to get clunking and no manner of grease will make the squeak go away for longer than a few miles. The UCA will have to come off to replace the bushing (Icon was backordered when we had to get mine just FYI) but the good news is that it is a quick process for a shop with the right tools and it's unlikely that you will damage anything driving on a brand new torn bushing while you wait for the part to arrive.
If they are backordered, have them loosen the UCA bolts and then grease the bejesus out of the bushing to help keep you protected while you wait.

Thanks again. I forgot to mention that I have the Billet UCA's and they don't actually have bushings... They have heim joints. I saw another few posts where this problem was tied to an O-ring in the shock and was addressed by using motorcycle chain lube on the shock shaft... I may try that on both the heim joints and the front shock shafts and report back.

When advertising products for family wagons, Icon should exit the 20-year old boy mentality and not offer the 2.0IFP on anything but a "stage 1" lift. And then advertise Stage 1 as a road first setup, one that makes the 4Runner much more fun to drive and safer on road, no UCAs needed.

They should also specify it as good for 2-3" lift, not 1-3" lift.

It is an excellent shock for the money with outstanding street performance, but it has far too little uptravel on 1" lift and it only lasts like 10,000 miles total if actually used offroad.

Icon should offer the 2.0 resi on anything above Stage 1.
