push button start for non limited 4runner retrofit
I have a 2016 TE 4runner, and I've researched push button start and the general concensus is that it doesn't exist for non-limited models. However, I came across this on youtube.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PAbS_alaHbM
anyone have any idea as to what Aftermarket system this installer used?

I was going to watch the video, but the guy can't even spell "conversion", so ..... no.
Also, you'll void your warranty ... think it over.

I vote dont do it
Fire Marshal here:
Let put out this fire before it begins.
DISCLAIMER:
This opinion is mine and all mine. I am giving this opinon from years of experience. From years of people wanting this. From years of "you want it, i'll do it. Tail light warranty".
Now thats said.
Lets start from the beginning of this retrofit.
1: You need to disable the steering wheel lock that is present in factory PTS vehicles. this lock is a motorized lock. non PTS, will have a mechanical one. To by pass you need to remove it or cut a key down to a nub stick it into the tumble and leave it permanently in the unlock position.
You ok with this? then lets move on.
2: Factory imobolizer. lets get around that since that circuit energizes once it senses the key inserted. so we need to simulate key sense, so it can read the imobolizer code that imbedded in your key. several wasy to get around that. pull the immobolizer key ring off and program a new key to the car and leave it permanently bypassed. or send the TX and RX commands on start, but we need to have timing done correctly. it needs to see the whole sequence of key insertion. so ignition cant come on before accesory 1 and 2. all this before we press the button.
Wait it gets more fun. Still want to do it? Steering wheel lock is disabled. easiest way is to disable the immobolizer. So lets move on to the next hurdle.
3: Now with 1 and 2 problems. we need to start it. system needs to be able to start with single button press. so the ciurcut needs to be pulsed until it sees the car start. that easy, tach sense is fine. but how do i know its not in gear before i send start command. it could be in drive. hey this is aftermarket so we dont need to care about safety LOL.
So after these 3 hurdles lets do intergration.
We'll need full security and remote starter, because we disabled everything. so the system basically needs to control ALL aspects of the key. Accesory 1 and 2, ignition 1 and 2, starter 1 and 2, lets not forget the two high current power feeds too. oh then there's the keys, cant forget about that, crap lets not forget about the push button intergration.
Great, we ready to do it. Now for the solution. Advance keys has a system and serveral others do too. Since it has a full security system in it, there will parasidic draw problems if you let it sit too long. dead battery. Fun times. its usually good for 3 to 4 days before the battery will go dead.
I'm not trying to argue with anyone about this. Just be informed that its a novel idea but would not be fun in getting it to work. If getting married to your installer is what you two want to do. Great, marriages like this are legal in many states.
I have done 3 in my 15 years in the install bay. one got into a accident, one was traded in and one is still on the road asfar as i know.
