ISO: RCI KDSS Skid Plate Picture
Does anyone have a picture of an RCI KDSS skid...?
The supposedly work for the KDSS equipped GX, so I included on my order request through the group buy:
"Skids are for a 2006 GX 470 with KDSS.
We spoke on the phone the other day and I was told to ask for the 5th Gen front plate to make it work.
Thank you so much for the discount, gents. Truly appreciate it."
After receiving them today I am fairly certain I just got the regular skid and I am not keen on chopping it up to make it fit. A picture of the 5th gen KDSS skid would clear it up.
Thanks gents.

Sigh.

Thank you for the thought.
I spoke with Josh on the phone today and he shipped me the correct front skid plate.
Since today was supposed to be the only day without rain this week I decided to throw the cross member, transmission skid, and transfer case skid on. Everything was going really well until I got to the transfer case skid.
As you can see, it's way too long. The holes on the skid are ~6" from lining up with the cross member.

You can see here that I have it mounted correctly (with the "slots" straddling the bolts for the transmission skid).

And then in this shot went to the other side of the vehicle and jacked the skid up to show just how far off it is.

And of course, when I figured out what the hell was going on, it was 4 minutes after RCI closed. Guess I'll have to give them another call tomorrow.

It's hard to tell but from those photos it looks like you've got a 4th gen 4runner transfer case skid, which would make sense if you've got a 470. Something funky must be up with the carryover between the two. I'm sure RCI will help you figure it out.
Are you a member of the Lexus gx group on Facebook? They may be able to provide some insight.

Ps, not to state the obvious but are you sure the crossmember is installed right? Take a look at the spacing from this shot from their website versus yours: http://www.rcimetalworks.com/images/IMG_1690.jpg
Now you could have the wrong crossmember, or like I said above there could be something amiss between the gx and 4runner years with how the crossmember can mount.

I was under the impression that the 4th gen tcase skid was the one I need (because this is what RCI told me =)). However, this doesn't appear to be the case.
I am a member of the GX group on Facebook and one guy did post some pictures of his skids. His tcase skid is MUCH shorter than mine, and does not have the bent sides like mine has. Looks like a totally different product, honestly.

The difference in the pictures is that he has a V6, so his exhaust and drive-train are a bit different than mine. However, if you look at the hole in the frame, just in front of the crossmember, you'll see that our crossmembers are in the same location (it really cannot go anywhere else- it's butted RIGHT up against the fuel tank).
I'll give Josh a call first thing in the morning. Looks like my new front skid should be here Thursday (so far no rain in the forecast =)).
