CB or HAM Radio and Antenna Mounts on 5th Gen
Any of y'all that have a CB or HAM hooked up care to share pics of where you mounted your radio and antenna?

You may get a few responses telling you to do a search, there are a lot of posts about this.
I took a very simple approach with my CB. I use a magnetic mount in the middle of the roof and bring the cable in the rear hatch or left passenger door. I close the door on it and let the soft gasket hold the cable. I use a stainless steel whip, not a Firestick type. If it's only for occasional use this is quick and simple and does not let others know you have radio equipment inside. A whip antenna does better when going near brush or under trees, low garages etc. It just springs back.
I have a Cobra WX75 that I mounted under the drivers seat and when in use, I put the mic in the cup holder.
Many others have done a more permanent and convenient installation for more often use as a search will show.

There's tons of different ways of doing it. Check this thread
lets see them CB Antenna Mounts
I mounted my HAM radio right to the side of the center console on the driver's side. I have a CBI antenna mount that I need to attach. Right now I'm using a Comet LD-5M lip mount with my 2m/70cm antenna.

Do a search. Tons of info. CB and Ham are totally different animals.
CBs are generally junky cheap radios with limited mounting options. They require a large antenna... There are units that have the controls and display integrated into the mic.
Ham radios often have remote head units and many more mounting options. I have my Ham control head unit mounted in the sunglass flip down... Depending on the band.. the ham radio antenna can be extremely small and still have plenty of range. This all has to do with the wavelength of the band..
Ham obviously requires a license.. and allows for use of repeaters/duplex and many other interesting digital technologies and location services.
It would seem logical to have a radio that could do HAM and CB frequencies. They do exists, but are technically illegal. With CB the license is with the radio, with HAM the license is with the station operator.

I use NMO hood lip mounts, i recommend NMO for both CB and Ham radios because they are so easy to remove the antenna when needed. These are the mounts I use http://a.co/3nEVTMI

I had 259 on my last two setups, trying an NMO now and am learning that NMO that are exposed to the elements are subject to damage from salt / water on the roadway (Underneath). About to go back to 259.

if there isn't an antenna on it you put a weather cap on, they cost like $2, with an antenna on it nothing is more exposed than a pl-259. there is an o-ring that keeps out water, but you can also get SS NMO mounts if you want.
weather cap:

I just installed a TM-D710G (Ham) radio in my 2017. I was happy how things went. I didn't have to cut anything except for the pass-through nub on the firewall boot & a wee-little bit of filing on the left-rear tail-light assembly.
1. I ran the power straight (fused #12 wire) from the battery through the driver-side firewall boot. I snipped one of the little nubs on the boot & the wire slipped through nicely, then under the driver's door-sill to the radio under the driver's seat.
2. Used a Diamond K515SNMO mount on the rear of the left luggage rail. I was worried it wouldn't perform well without having a solid ground-plane, but it seems to do very nice (antenna is a Diamond NR-770HBNMO). I really like this antenna (have 3 of them) - their only fault is that they aren't flexible when you hit low-hanging branches.
3. Routed coax down left side of rear hatch opening inside of the door, but outside of the door seals (attached to car with sticky-hooks that came with mount), then through the left taillight housing (filed small notch in housing & wrapped coax with coax-seal), then behind left side trim (had to remove rear deck floor, rear seat latch cover & left door sills) to radio under driver's seat. I only loosened, but did not remove the lower part of left rear panel siding to provide working room).
3. Used Diamond C101NMO + C110 coax instead of the Coax that came with the K515SNMO. It was the perfect length & the connection is accessible in the side panel.
4. The Kenwood KES-3S speaker rests nicely in one of the slots on the right side of the center console.
5. The radio control head is currently resting on the front of the center console. I plan to retain it better with a slide-in mount to the lower front dash tray later.
6. I have the mic in the front cup-holder for now - I plan to figure out something better later.

If you're getting water or anything else inside the mount, then your seal is missing, it's not threaded properly or it's a junk mount/antenna. There's no reason whatsoever that should be happening with a properly installed quality NMO antenna and mount. My contact surface looks as brand new as the day I bought it and it's been through hell during the past 3 years. Canadian winters are not kind to exposed metal.

Look up Rago Fabrication. I just saw they have a very clean looking antenna mount for the T4R. When I get back in the country I'll be ordering one.

looks good but i'm curious what kind of SWR they are running, i'm surprised they recommend a ground strap instead of an NGP antenna with that mount

NGP would work. The only issue I have is how directional an antenna becomes when you mount it on the courner of a vehicle this way.....

I used a diamond mount that has a knob you loosen and lay the antenna over when you need clearance and stand it back up when you want. Perfect for going thru the car wash takes 5 seconds.
