Great video! I really like your secondary rubber bumper support + velcro idea. Any idea where I can get it?

I started this modification. I have not put the secondary bumper on yet but, you definitely need it. Thanks for the idea.

Thanks guys!

Here's the bumper link:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

And velcro straps:
https://www.amazon.com/VELCRO-Brand-...ds=velcro&th=1

Alternately you can use a method that @Swellrunner uses which is another set of Ram Mount items similar to those found here:

I installed the phone mount this weekend and it's super sweet. Great location and easy to do by removing the head unit and making some small holes for the ball mount. If you do this and choose to ever remove the mount, the holes are on the side of the trim for the head unit and can easily be covered with a small black rubber grommet or something like that.

Great video and excellent mount points, thanks for posting this.

I installed the phone mount as well. I love it! In addition, I pulled a USB cable for my Galazy S8 down to the USB outlet and aux power outlet. I drilled a hole in the back of the small pocket next to the USP port. Ran the cable behind the dash and pulled it out at the plastic separation right below the phone. It turned out really good!

Can you post a pic of this? I'm looking for a better alternative to how I'm currently running my cable w/ my ram mount.

thanks,
-Chris

Nice work! RAM makes it all functional in my rig! Just got a box today from them to upgrade the phone mount!

Just a tip... you could easily improve on your USB power setup and free up that 12v accessory port for something else...

You can tap off the Accessory power port and install a USB panel mount hidden behind the dash...

I had a bunch of those plug-in types like you have and I opened and soldered leads to the input power and made my own. I have a few around the car wired up for USB power. Pretty clean and out of the way.

I have one in the glove box and center console to charge flashlight, headlamp, and my handheld radio.

That is a good idea! I was going to do something similar, however, this setup allows me to either use the accessory port to charge the phone, while having the ability to unplug from the accessory port into the vehicle's USB port for data/music transfer. It is still beyond me the fact the USB port is a fractional amp port. It doesn't provide enough power to charge the phone.

It is possible that the output current of that USB port is not sufficient to charge some of today's larger or more demanding devices, or perhaps that is a data only port.

Since I got an iPhone 8. I installed a wireless charging pad into the center console cuby on it's underside of my Silverado. When I drop my phone into the area where I generally store it when driving, it's charging without wires.

I still have to work on my wireless setup charging for the 4Runner, but I have been thinking of installing a charging pad into the ram mount itself, so when its docked, its already being fed power.

As for music... I do everything over bluetooth so it's wireless so I haven't run into that issue myself.

Lots of options if you want to get creative.

Drilling the transmission tunnel

The table/gps mounts look really clean. I've ordered the parts but I'm still a bit hesitant to screw into the transmission housing. I live in Utah and I deal with a fair amount of snow and salt in the winter. I'm worried about long term rust issues. Do I need to silicone the holes? I'm not sure how I would get Rust-Oleam into the area. Does anyone have any thoughts or experience with this? Additionally, where they 1 inch screws?

RAM makes an arm that attaches using the front seat bolt. No need to put holes in the transmission tunnel.
