I hear babies go for around 50-100K dollars.
If you sold it I'm sure you could afford to pay off the truck and pay someone to open / close the lift gate for you and even a personal driver for a year or so!

Im told that it makes a difference when you've got a baby in one hand and trying to load stuff in another hand. Tryina trying to convince a buddy of mine to pick up a 4runner, and says he she loves em' but a lack of a power lift gate for a 40k suv doesn't work for him her.

Ain't this the truth...Says the guy who held in 4 golf bags from the back seat of an Infiniti FX as we drove home with the biggest ricer spoiler I've seen yet...yes, the trunk was stuck WIDE open, and it stayed like that until we were advised by the dealership at home (we were on Vacation) to simply ignore all the grinding and death noises, and force it closed until he could get to the dealer for the fix. Try doing THAT with a baby in your arms!

They do and they dance as well, but if you post a vid of your 100+k suv dancing its kind a d-bag move. It may also mean you're heavily compensating for something ...

If those lazy babies would hang onto the case of beer for us then it would be so much easier to make it in one trip.

Anyone know if the liftgate buttons are compatible and can be swapped to the other trims?
I have a Trail and like the Limited's buttons...

A lot of other SUVs at this price point have several features not available on the 4Runner. We traded a 2014 Explorer and it was much faster, more comfortable, better stereo, better features (remote start, power lift gate, blind spot detection, rear traffic detection, etc.) and was a better choice if you're spending all of your time on the street. The 4Runner shines in reliability and off-road capability and falls short of most other SUVs on features and 'daily driver comforts'. If you're never going to venture beyond where the pavement ends then the 4Runner is probably not your best choice.

Had one for 60 days. Couldn't trade it in fast enough. Took one road trip and found out about the exhaust smell that came through the vents and why nobody was tickled pink with Entune. Then I learned that adding a receiver would void the warranty and it was not rated high enough to tow more than 2,500lbs. For me it was my worst choice ever. And oh my was it ever boring to drive. Big Ford Taurus. I'm sure advancements and tweaks have made it better since then. I know I won't be back on a Ford lot for the foreseeable future, so there is that. I like my SUV to actually be able to tow something and get further than the Christmas tree farm dirt lot.

it may or may not be a futile effort but Voxx makes a power liftgate for the new Rav4 and several others. It's designed to be model specific and even includes a canbus interface. If the shocks match up and some engineering it might work. You'll end up paying and don't quote me on it but around $800 for a full kit uninstalled.

Autoease will develop a power lift gate for the 4Runner, but they need 40 confirmed pre-orders.
See bottom of their pre-order web page, I know the dates are expired: TL105 Power Liftgate Pre-orders ? Autoease

Love a good solution- disabled but still love to off road and live in pain for days
So I get it- sounds like a wussy thing to have but when one uses the 4Run for a grocery run and your spine is shot like mine- it would help a ton.
There's gotta be a kit I can get my local friendly mechanic to install?
Before the spine went, I drove "the Beast"- '88 Ford F250 Lariat with heavy suspension, soft top, camping in back. I killed it, well the guy that stole it did.

Be cheaper, and far more reliable to trade for a Pathfinder, Highlander, Pilot, etc.
In 8 years reading this forum, I've never seen any modification for the gate. I doubt there's room for the mechanism.

Any new developments in the power lift gate area? My brother and I each have gen 3s and my Dad and grandmother have gen 5s.
My grand mom is 74 and has had a 4Runner since the late 80s. She doesn’t want a whimsy RAV4 or Yuppy Highlander. She lives in an off road area in NC and drives off road for 8 miles to get to her home. She will only have a 4Runner and never compromise. She is 74 and is having a harder time getting the tailgate down. Is that Autogate auto lift system any good or are there better ones that Toyota recommends?
