Tailgate garnish
Noticed I have a gap on both left and right (left is worse) corners where the garnish curves downward. Garnish looks kinda warped. Been this way since new, but seems a bit worse after dealing with some paint rub there. From what I've seen it mainly seems to be the Trail/Pro black garnish with the issue. Haven't seen a painted or chromed one with the gap. Anyone have any suggestions to close up the gap? I was thinking maybe heat the garnish while applying pressure. Not sure if that'd help. Or just leave it I guess. Thoughts?

I have noticed this recently on my trail, only have a gap on the driver side though. It causes a terrible rattle on bass heavy songs. I'm probably going to tear the rear hatch apart and see what I can do to stop the rattle/close the gap.

Here's what I'm seeing. Right side isn't bad. Left side I am not real happy with.

Yes the plastic piece above the license plate with the T emblem and 4RUNNER on it.

I redid the whole thing with new clips, gaskets and seals the other day. Also sanded the bottom corners of the garnish and then applied 3M clear tape under it to keep it from touching the paint. Over the past couple of days the gap hasn't gotten any better but the spacing on the bottom corners seems to be closing up as and on the left side its resting firmly on the tape now. Not sure if I should leave it or take it apart again and put a was he under the two outer bolts to space it away and maybe twist the garnish up slightly to close up the gap.

Hate to bring up an old post, but I am having this issue too. Did you ever find a resolution?

7 year bump! I just had to drop $700+ on getting surface rust removed bc the right side of my garnish had been rubbing. So of course the autro place makes it look nice and neat and then puts the garnish righ back wear it was. So now Im thinking about putting on a new one bc I think this has a bend to it or something.

Good to know for a new 2024 Limited. My 2010 Limited didn't have this issue. It's been GREAT!

Just noticed mine rubbed through the paint as well. Going to touch it up and put a piece of foam tape probably. I removed this piece about four years ago because it was loose so I didn’t do a good job of preventing this.
Some pics of removal and cleaning, etc. here.
