I was set on SSO and then saw this thread and starring looking at c4. Then when I got to this pic I was sold and ended up ordering the C4 last month. Should get it next month.

SSO install question

Has anyone got and installed the SSO bumper themselves on here. I just ordered one and after reading instructions for the install in one the steps ig has you remove airflow ducts on either side of the radiator and it doesn’t seem they get reinstalled. Wonderind if any of you on here with either the C4 or SSO did this and if this is an issue. I’m pretty concerned removing that would affect airflow across the radiator or across other parts. Does anyone know about this I’d greatly appreciate any insight before its too loate to cancel my order. Thanks.

SSO bumper has a lot of gaps, but on MGM it isn't noticeable unless you are standing close to it. Is it enough to bother some people? Yeah. It isn't enough to bother me though.



the feature sets and build quality on both is good enough that you probably won't notice much difference.



I do have to note though, SSO's powder coat is thin. It is chipping on some parts and I literally installed it yesterday.



C4 powder coat is a lot thicker from what I've seen (from the ladder I purchased from them).


C4 website indicates that the low profile bumper for the 5th gen only comes raw without powder coating. Not sure about the rest of their products.

c4 does offer powder coating on some of their products, just not all of them. Point of the comparison with c4 is that SSO's powder coat is pretty crappy, so you might as well do it locally. However, I see what you are saying, that I can't really compare powder coating of both companies if one doesn't offer powder coating on that specific item. I guess then, I rather deal with c4's raw bumper and get it done locally. I'd still mark SSO's powder coating as a con........lol.

I installed the C4 myself and did not have to mess with any of the air ducts. Cant say for sure regarding the SSO bumper though.

Thanks. Kinda regretting going with the SSO and even more now hearing about their powder coating. Went with the SSO cause it was a little lighter.

I installed it myself. I kept the air ducts and just trimmed them to fit around the SSO bumper is all. Still maintained most of them and they appear that they will function as intended.

Bonus pic: doing a donut with said bumper installed.

When I installed my SSO slimline bumper I trimmed back the air dams and then reinstalled them. The driver’s side only required minor trimming and the passenger side got hacked up more because I used the vertical support it mounts on to also mount my winch relay box.

I think you’ll find that the most difficult part of the installation is cutting the bumper shroud.

Yeah, I've had my bumper on for several months (sans air ducts), and have noticed the the fender liner is receiving a lot of air flow, pushing it back towards the wheel. I actually popped one of my clips off that holds the liner in place while on a road trip. I think I probably used the wrong screw when reinstalling after putting the bumper on. But I'll be chopping and reinstalling my ducts for sure.

I have 2 sets of SSO Sliders, both with their powdering. The finish is excellent and have had no issues with chipping. One set has been on for over a year and the finish is still perfect. I wouldn't be too concerned.

Thanks guys for all your first hand experience. After seeing some your pics and hearing mostly good things about the air deflectors and the powder coating Im looking forward to getting mine on. Those sliders look pretty good as well.

Ive seen both side by side. I compared welds, construction, thicknesses, looks and feel.

HANDS DOWN C4 IS BETTER IMO.

No real choice here. PLUS CALEB IS A GREAT OWNER! And, if your lucky like I was they will take ya wheelin!

I think I asked this in another topic but either didn't get an answer or never checked back. Bull bars, looks or is there a functional purpose for them?
