I will never understand the desire to have a smaller contact patch than stock sized tires.

What's the point of traction and mpg if your truck looks weak and scrawny? Do you think these guys off road much on those skinny tires?

don't forget, when aired down, they have a longer footprint.
It's not like military jeeps had 305s. They have seriously narrow tires. So do any vehicles that spend time in the bush or in very bad, rutted roads in the middle of nowhere.
...And any serious snowplowing rig....

I'm running 255 Blizzaks for that winter tough look.

I'm swapping to Michelin LTX 255-75-17 after these Dueler Alenza Plus's
wear down. Yes boring simple functional tires that do their job too damn well.

I agree with the utility in the skinny tires, but with the huge weight of our runners they can be pretty scary during evasive maneuvers while at speed.

Hmmmm. You might have a valid point there.
I have been debating between 275/70/17 and 255/75/17. Was leaning towards the 255 due to the lighter weight and larger selection of tires. I'm not overly concerned about off road performance since taller and thinner can sometimes be better than fatter and lower and visa versa, depending on the situation.
However, ON road I think I would prefer to be on 275's during evasive maneuvers.

I think a 265/75, 265/80, or 275/75 would be awesome tire choices. How come there are no tires in that size?! With a 17" rim of course. I know the 265/75/16 exists.

I knew I’d kick the beehive with my comment but it’s true.
People don’t do this because it looks ridiculous. I am typically a function over form kind of guy but not in this case. I want both. I’m sure they perform well off road except perhaps in sand and I would think mud.
I do more off roading than any of my friends and have never once been in a spot where I wished I had a more narrow tire.
To each their own. Love the look from the side! Do what makes you happy...just not for me or most.

Plus you get less rubber to protect your wheels. I just can’t understand the benefit other than, of course, weight, MPG, and cost savings.

I’m running the 255/75R17 KMs from a stock rubicon. OME light kit and spidertrax.

Nice looking rig! The spacers help the look.
At least you get better options if you’re not interesting in just E range tires. I off road but I don’t crawl rock and really don’t need the overkill E range so I see this option opens some doors with that.

255's are roughly .45 inch taller from the curb; i think its invalid that wider tires provide better wheel protection from off roading.
I feel like most speedometers read 1.5 to 2 mph too fast; so this taller tire will keep things more accurate at the speedo. This also means you'll accumulate fewer miles on our 4runners thus helping resale value.
Then again, these changes are so small that no1 would even notice any changes except in vehicles handlig behavior

I had the 275/70/17 KO2's for a couple years. When I got new tires, I went with 255/75 in load range C.
The difference in ride quality is night and day! The truck feels 1000 lbs lighter and it has more grip now. The old ones still looked new with a lot of tread, but seemed laborious to drive and added a lot of drag I could really feel when I let off the gas. Also, wet traction on the road was horrible.
