Takata Remedy Notice Received!
Just received notice that the remedy is available and I am to bring it in. Finally. My vehicle is Zone A, the first to receive the new parts. I will update once I have the service completed.

Remedy notice? That's really what they are calling it, huh. What does the remedy entail - air bag replacement or something else? That's funny - must have been thought up by some lawyer somewhere!

Update once you take it in and get it replaced. I'd like to know what all it entails and how long it takes. Mine is set to come out in September. Can't wait to drive with a passenger in the front seat again.

Got mine today too and called the dealer. They said the first meeting is for them to investigate the problem and then check parts availability. We'll see how that goes. I wanted to say, Uhh, the problem is pretty well known at this point. By the way, your info says you're in the Puget Sound area. That's Zone C. Is your 4Runner registered in Zone A somewhere?

Interesting, will share what I learn. As far as mine, I'm the second owner, it originated in zone A.

I don't understand why a dealer can't say "we'll call you back as soon as the parts are here". This seems to be outside of their capabilities. They have to have the truck sitting there leaving you with the hassle of doing without... just so they can order the part.
Which brings up another point.. It seems rentals should be part of a recall repair. I doubt it is, but I find it a major pain to deal with arranging a ride from/to dealer. I'm guessing this process will take a few days if the entire dash has to come out.
If someone does actually get the remedy installed, or gets a ETA on parts from the dealer. Please post up. Really curious how the supply chain of these parts will hold up or if it even exists.

The repair should not take multiple days to perform once the parts are in stock. As a professional technician I have removed and replaced many dash assemblies in different models of vehicles and after doing quite a few of the same models in a row I can do them in a few hours or less. This includes performing Takata related inflator recalls. I do not work for Toyota however the principal still applies… often times the IDENTICAL repair can be performed by the technician faster with a slightly different method than the method outlined in the specific recall.
These recalls are very important and as a professional technician I take very seriously my responsibility to perform them correctly since it is a safety matter. Please do keep in mind also that these recalls are an inconvenience to everyone, including the technician performing the repair. Warranty/the manufacturer pays diddley squat to the flat rate technicians to perform these repairs… yet we are still required to perform the repairs, and speaking for myself personally I do my very best to do the highest quality job that I can.

My new dealership, in the new area I moved to, offers free rental vehicles on any services performed. I was also told that the airbag could be replaced on a Saturday morning and be done by lunch time, once the part becomes available. Hopefully they stick to their September time schedule. I'd be a hell of a lot more impatient if I were still dealing with my shitty old dealer back in South Texas. They say whatever you want to hear just to keep you happy. Those dumbasses even told me that I had to drive back to them and have the recall done with them because they "Special ordered my inflator and had it expedited to them".

In agreement as I almost fell into the take it in trap. I dont want to take it in until it can be fixed right then. Also why isnt toyota paying for a loaner for the day or time it takes to get it fixed? Is that on the specific dealer or toyota?
So i will be refusing to take it in until a dealer can assure me they have the parts and loan me a car until it is finished. I didnt cause this mess, toyota (& takata) did.

I really appreciate folks like you who take their work seriously no matter what the pay is... but I'm afraid you are not the norm and it further supports my suspicion that dealers could prioritize this work very low, since it is not as profitable.. but we will see.

I received my remedy notice today and just got off the phone with my local dealership warranty department.
The earliest appointment they had was July 21
confirmation email
Quote:
"Recall - * Customer States Please Perform Recall, * Vehicle May Require Pre-Inspection To Order Parts, G1p / Takata Front Passenger Airbag Inflator"

The guy I spoke to stated the vehicle requires inspection, and, if needed, they will replace the inflator.
Sounds like this may not be the final remedy?
Thoughts?

Here in Northern California, it is common for the dealer/automaker to provide a loaner for the duration of the recall. Meaning if you are recalled, and you speak up that you don't feel safe operating your car/truck, and/or you need all available seat belts. The dealer sets you up in a rental car until the air bag parts are available and your car/truck fixed.
A friend with a Honda Pilot got a rental for 7 months, a coworker got a rental for his corolla that was recalled and it took 9 months. My 2015 4runner hasn't been recalled, but I will be voicing my concern on the safe operation of my 4runner given all the recorded injuries and deaths associated with the defective airbag inflators.

I received my notice, went to the dealership for my service appointment, and was told they need to order the part. I voiced my concern about driving my car till the part came in...but I got denied a Loaner car. Ended up calling Toyota corporate (number listed on my recall letter) and they told me not to put anyone in the front passenger seat until the part comes in. Corporate said they will not provide loaners for this recall. Honda came out publically that they will provide loaner vehicles for everyone affected. Apparently, Honda has given out over 240,000 loaner vehicles for the Takata recall.
After confirming my car needs the part, I was told the part should arrive in a few days but I wonder how true that is...anyone actually have it replaced yet? This was Tustin Toyota (SoCal) I went to btw.

You were told a lie... but that is what most dealers do.. 50% of the statements they make are lies. I would try to find a more honest dealer.
