Stock headlight conversion: to do or not to do?!

I know there are quite a few posts already and I've read about 80 percent of them, but i figured I'd start another fresh one. I'm looking at upgrading my 2015 stock headlights, but have no clear decision on which way to go. What are everyone's thoughts on headlight upgrades? Retrofitting, LEDs, HIDs...

Personal experience and pictures kindly welcomed! Any and all help with choosing the best route is huge.

You can get by with just a HID bulb/ballast/wiring kit from a place like Retrofitsource or Ligthwerkz.

But to get the most out of the headlights you would want to do a proper HID projector retro fit then add the above. A HID Projector is different from an incandescent Projector.

I have read the refreshed 5th Gen light ranks as one of the worst so anything will help.

Look into a retro fit kit from Retrofitsource and find someone that can do the install. I had mine done by Lightwerkz and haven't regretted it one day. I almost don't need any auxiliary lights on trails with the set up I have.

Most guys like the xenon depot hid kit with the 4300k Phillips bulbs. I went with the led kit even though its probably not quite as bright as their hid kit. I just order it so still waiting on it. The reasons I went with the led kit is a couple of reasons. There was a post comparison of the kits in another thread and really the difference wasn't that huge to spend another 100 bucks on to me. The 100 I saved ended up paying for me to do the led fog light kit as well. I also figured if the I went all led the color would match better as well. Plus at the end of the day I figured if I really wanted the hid kit. I am sure xenon depot would take care of me if I wanted to exchange it out. Do some searches you will find plenty of info about lights.

I retrofitted the Retrofit Source mini d2s 3.0's in another vehicle and they are amazing. I'd pay a shop if I were to do it again though, took forever.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the 2014+ 4Runners have some sort of side mounted projector so you may be limited as to what kind of hid-spec projectors are available. Run a search for it, I think someone talked about it a year ago.

I went the 4300 route. I don't regret it, IMO the stock lights were horrible. I chose not to go with LED just due to past experience. I'm sure there's other opinions as well. To contradict that last statement I did just get my ridged fog lights on Monday. Those are going on once my new bezels come in Thursday. I will say there probably is a slight issue with my projectors and the HID. They are called squirrel spotters and it a small piece of metal in the projector that aims light upwards at a 45 degree angle. This assists lighting up signs at night (hence the name) yea I'm kidding... anyway it doesn't appear to bother on coming traffic though I've read it can be an issue. I'm fine with I guess, still better than stock. My other cars with HIDs have a solid light break line. Here's a shot a 10' away. Sorry I don't have a before. Try taking a picture of yours to compare at 10'

The stock projectors have really good cutoff for an HID upgrade, just get an HID kit

HID retrofit is great! 4300K Phillips Xenon Depot HID kit and Phillips LED fog lights is an amazing combo! Literally night and day difference.
