Thinking the dealer used the wrong filter for my 10k oil change

Maybe you can help me out. I changed my oil last night (I'm at 15k). I went ahead and let the dealer do my 10k service because it's free, figured I'd give them a chance, etc.

Long story short, the used filter I pulled out was a 15613-YZZA1 (AKA 04152-YZZA1). Diameter is the same, but it is significantly shorter than the 15613-YZZA2 (AKA 04152-YZZA5) I've been running (which I have a box of in the garage).

Seems as though the A1 is for the 2GR v6 motors in the Rav4/Sienna and some 2A 4cyl motors. I can't imagine they are interchangeable...are they?

Just wanted to make sure I have the facts before sending an email to the service manager.

Also, here is the link to the Toyota filter application chart I've been using:

That sucks! Sounds like you're owed an extended warranty but I'm sure they'll say they didn't do it.

Yep, that's a pretty good shot showing the difference.

Let us know how it works out for you.. If something ever happens to your motor down the road at least you have a record of Toyota changing it at 10k and using the wrong filter which makes them at fault..

I'll check it when I get home. Not sure if it had PNs on it.

Indeed. I now feel bad for defending dealers on here and other sites. I've worked at dealers, my father was a mechanic for as long as I can remember. This is just simple laziness and inability to pay attention. There is no excuse for stupid mistakes like this to happen.

Last time I did my oil change (last two I've done myself)... went to the dealer for parts; they did the exact same to me. Was MID-CHANGE when I noticed... had to drive my wife's car (luckily middle of day on a Saturday) all dirtied up after I went ape-shiote on them over the phone for being f'n idiots. Lesson learned... have exact part #s in hand when picking them up AND double check what's in the bag.

perhaps I don't understand how this cartridge filter is assembled.

but it seems to me, you wouldn't have ANY filtration with that shorter filter in place. in order for it to filter properly, it would need to be seated and sealed on each end, that cant be possible with it being that short, right?

Like an aquarium filter at best. Like the proverbial screen door on a submarine at worst.

Got home and verified, they have the incorrect part number listed on the service ticket as well. Wish now I would've paid better attention at the time

whoa, that is scary. I am slowly approaching my 40k oil change. For future reference, which filter is the proper one to be used in my 2016 SR5?

Thanks!
