Upper rear control arms

Are these needed or is it just pretty? I'm gonna be installing a 3" lift and doing the lower arms as well

No, they are not needed. The benefit of these is when you go long travel in the rear. The heim joint allows move movement with less binding.

Actually... they allow you to get your pinion angle back to factory spec after a lift. Also if you want to move the axle forward or something with adjustable LCAs.. Not required though. If you get a vibration in the rear end from the U-joint.. this can fix it and reduce a little wear on that joint. I've never ran adjustable myself.. but can see a very small benefit. If you notice your rig smooth out a bit with a load... You get the idea of what they provide.. but pinion angle is always changing with load anyway. Someone also makes non adjustable that are already the right length for a lift to get the pinion angle back to spec unloaded.

As WFO stated, there are some advantages, but, since I was on my phone in an airport heading on vacation, I wasn't going to go in depth, but there are plenty of knowledgeable people here to help out.
