SSO Slimline Hybrid front bumper trim specific??

Was just looking and there is an option to select the trim level when ordering an SSO Slimline Hybrid front bumper. Why is that? wouldn't it be the same? The only difference that I am aware of would be the bumper valances, but those are cut off and removed when installing this...

The stock skid plate on the trail does not come up as high as the TRD skid plate on the TRD Pro. So they need to know the trim in order to fit your front end properly without any overlap. Great choice on a bumper by the way. I love mine.

The PRO version has the lower plate cut much shorter to the front of the bumper so the TRD PRO skid plate clears. I have the trail and the bottom plate is about 6" longer. My buddy has the TRD PRO version and we just looked at both side by side while we were getting an alignment done two weeks ago.

Give them a call, they have a great customer service department.

Also, read the multitude of post threads and discussions in the group buy area regarding just this.

Either way, it may be because of the skid plates but we all only truly know our own trucks, not the idiosyncratic differences like the guys who are catering to them specifically, business hours are now, give them a call.

Sounds like everyone has it covered. I actually had my bumper ordered, and then wasn't thinking and ordered the skid plate. Once I installed my bumper, I had to cut a cavity to allow the skid to fit. Simply put, SSO either allows for the longer plate or they do not and that's the reason for the question during ordering.

From what I read c4 was about to do a group buy. Not super impressed with my SSO to be honest.

@Trixx , what don't you like about it? I will give them a ding for powder coat, mine has some visible wear from shipping ( could blame that on packaging more then the PC) and it having some wear/rust show on the top of the hoop and welds.

Aside from that it seems very well built.

They forgot to powder coat mine before shipping it out. I received a bare bumper, but I guess it was a blessing in disguise. Got refunded for the PC and had it done locally, and didn't have to worry about any shipping damage.

Yeah, they really don't want to powder coat them anymore if possible because of all the blowback from shipping damage to the finish. They still will from what I understand from Kevin, but they don't like to.

My powder coat experience was a bit different. My box arrived in flawless condition, not a crease or dent in the box. Packaging was great. However, powder coated was damaged to the bare steel. I'm 99.9% positive it was damaged before shipment as that couldn't have happened any other way. I'm a CWI with a degree in welding technology and tons of quality related inspection experience, including coatings. No way this happened in shipping.

My bumper holes did not align well with the bumper and frame. I had to slot all the holes horizontally around 1/8" or so to center the bumper. It was terribly offset otherwise.

The slots for the light mount weren't the same so the light sits about 1/16" higher on one side or so. Most people wouldn't notice, I do.

The included light switch for the 4runner, doesn't fit the oem blanks. Wish I would've known so I could've ordered the correct. The day after the bumper arrived I left for a 3+ week 4runner trip (still on the trip now, 2500 miles into it)

Fortunately I got a deal on the bumper through a group buy, because otherwise I do not feel the bumper I received was worth their MSRP and would absolutely be checking out the C4 bumper as an alternative. Had they of not made the slight attempt they did to make right I would've started a thread on the negative experience, but instead I will be at least mentioning my disappointing experience to make other aware.

Pretty disappointed with the overall experience, and I don't have "very" high standards either..

I ordered my SSO in raw steel and it had it professionally double powder coated. It came out amazing and I'm very happy with it. It's very wear and chip resistant. The product build quality and strength has been great so far.

The good thing is, it's easy to remove and take in for a pro powered coating. Rattle canning your self is just asking for trouble. It's well worth the price for a pro paint job.
