Rexing V1 Car Dash Cam Questions

I always scoffed at people with dash cams in their cars. After four close calls in two weeks I may have changed my mind on them.

I think I've settled on the Rexing V1 Car Dash Cam form Amazon. For $100 on Amazon Prime it looks like a solid cam. There are also option with a GPS logger, but I'm not sure if I want that data recorded or not. There is also an option for a rear facing cam, but I'm not sure if that would work unless I got an external cam.

I think the Rexing V1 should fit in front of the rear view mirror and hide it from internal view.

I would like to power the Rexing V1 from the overhead console or other switched location and not from the 12v outlet. I'm thinking there may be a wire I could tap in the overhead console. Another option may be to use an add-a-circuit on the power outlet fuse (under the dash)

I would like to hear any experiences with the Rexing V1 and how the setup went.

I have a cheaper 30 dollar version, and it works great. In all honesty, I wouldn't spend that much on a dash cam, especially with all the crazy deals on amazon and ebay. Just my 2 cents. I plugged mine into the charger in the glove box and ran the wires down the pillar.

I have a Viofo A119 with GPS that I have powered off an add-a-circuit (along with my radar detector). I recommend using an add-a-circuit to power, or if you want it on all the time get the power magic pro kit.

I have the Rexing and I really like the quality, but I can never quite get the right angle that I want. There are definitely better dash cameras out there. I had a cheaper PapaGo! one that I used to use that I liked more but it broke.

I will say also, even though I put up a windshield screen to block the sun where I lived (Las Vegas) the screen on the Rexing got all distorted and doesn't look right anymore. We had higher temperatures than normal in Vegas but still, that screen didn't like the heat.

I would buy something else. They always have really nice ones at Costco and I have heard great things about BlackVue Dash Cameras.

In my opinion, a great dash camera is worth the investment. I won't buy another $100 one. Also, get a really great MicroSD card that is made for security cameras and re-recording. The cheaper sd cards don't last as long and I had a couple that got corrupted. You don't want to be dealing with a corrupt sd card when you're trying to prove fault in an accident.
