Scout Runner's adventure thread

I decided to start this thread to document what all I'm going to do to the new 4Runner, as well as the many trips I have planned to take in it. This past weekend I sold my 2016 4x4 SR5. I had only owned it since the end of May and had already took two trips to Colorado in it and racked up 10,000 miles on it in just 3 months. It was used when I bought it with 25,000 miles on it. It was previously a Hertz rental vehicle. This always bothered me to no end. I know some may think its stupid, but I just couldn't get passed it. I had no idea how much I was going to like the 4Runner when I first bought it. Had I known, I would have bought new to begin with. Coming from only driving lifted F250 diesel trucks, the 4Runner was a big change for me. This was also my first Toyota purchase and my first foreign made vehicle purchase.

I picked up Scout Runner on Tuesday. It is a Super white 2017 TRD Off-Road Premium. Moon roof, remote start, 3m paint protection etc... A couple of other reasons for selling the SR5 was that I wanted the rear locker, manual shifter, and the softex seats. I also wanted to start fresh with zero miles on a vehicle that was not a rental. So far Im very happy with it in the 350 miles Ive put on it in the last couple of days.

On Wednesday I put in my Weathertech floor liners and Canvasback liners in the rear. I haul two large dogs around with me a lot so these are a must have. Yesterday I got the windows tinted 5% all the way around and a strip across the top of the windshield.

I plan to do a lot to Scout Runner. Here is what is on the list in the next two weeks.

Install Icon 2.5 Coilovers with remotes and CDC adjusters on the front. Icon 2.0 shocks in the rear with Icon 2" rear springs. I already have all this sitting in my shop floor ready to go.
SPC adjustable UCA's will be here Tuesday.
Falken WildPeak AT's in 285/70/17 load E will be here Tuesday.
SCS Ray 10's in Gun Metal are sitting in my shop floor ready to go.
Spidertraxx spacers depending on the stance with the new wheels.
RCI full aluminum skid package is sitting in my shop floor ready to go.
SSO rock sliders are ordered, but no clue when they will arrive.
Interior LED replacements showed up today. Will have those in tomorrow.

The next day that I have off I will do the fender liner mod and a body mount chop. I will also use a heat gun on the mud flaps. I had to do all of this on my SR5, so im just going to go ahead and do it all now before the lift and tires get put on. I also need to paint the front and rear valances and plastidip the front, rear, and side badges. The side badges may get removed permanently. I will try to take pics of all of this to post on here.

I plan to get a Pelfrybuilt aluminum front bumper ordered as soon as I get a few days of overtime put in at work.

I plan to go back to Ouray, CO in 3wks to catch the fall color change. The plan is to have everything completed before the trip. At this point Im planning to go to Moab around the 3rd week of October. It would be nice to have my bumper and winch on before that trip.

Off to an incredible start. I love the ray 10s can't wait to see it all on there. My 4runner was also a hertz vehicle, it bothered me at first but have 56k miles on it and runs amazing still, I also saved a ton of money buying it from them. Look forward to your build!

Let me clarify that I had zero issues with the one I sold in the 10,000 miles that I drove it. It did have a odd rattling noise in the dash behind the speedo that would come and go. Also, being a rental it did have some scratches on it inside and out. Im sure the vehicle will run just fine from now on. I just wanted a new one and its easy to justify things when you try hard enough.

Just ordered a Gobi rack for Scout Runner......maybe I'll have it before 2018. We can only hope. Other than that, I ordered another set of the XD Phillips 4300K HIDs to install. I got some of the interior LEDs put in today. Im hoping to start installing the Icon coilovers tomorrow.

Getting started on the lift kit. Had to pick up a new floor jack from Harbor Freight this morning. My tires and UCAs showed up about an hour ago. Hopefully this goes smoothly. I have air tools so that should help some. Scout Runner only has 422 miles on the odometer and already getting torn apart.

Got the drivers side done. Passenger side should go a little faster. No real issues. Just time consuming.

Passenger side is done. It was a pain in the ass. I'll explain why later.

Ran into a small problem. The sway bar is rubbing on the driver's side. I can't get the bolts back in it either. The passenger side is fine and the bolts went back in with a little persuasion. The driver's side isn't even close and it can't go any further forward because it's already hitting the other piece shown in pic. I guess I will give Icon a call in the morning. I went ahead and drove it down the road a bit. Everything else seems fine.

I can't tell what the sway bar is hitting, radiator support? If so, it's a common problem, Google lead me to the solutions.

Non-KDSS right?

Yes it was the radiator support. I put 2 washers in the the front of the support on the driver's side. It gave it enough clearance for the sway bar not to hit the radiator support. Hopefully my RCI skid will still fit up ok.
No KDSS.

Got started on the rear this morning. It was pretty easy other than getting the track bar back over far enough to get the bolt back in it on the driver's side. The 2" springs weren't too much of a pain. I did it alone, so it's certainly doable with one person. Now the 3" Overland springs, those might be a two man job. I'm hoping to get the wheels and tires mounted today provided that I can find a set of black lug nuts in town. I went ahead and did the fender liner mod this morning on the front.

Wheels & tires are installed. It looks so much better now. I will probably turn up the Coilovers about 2-3 more turns on each side. The rear should settle a little also. I'll get some "after" measurements and post them with the before measurements.

I was able to get the front two RCI skids back on yesterday evening. I still have to install the new steel cross member and skid in the back. I ordered a set of Morimoto 4500K HID low beams. Those should arrive in a day or two and I'll get those installed.

Did you take these photos with a wide angle lens? For some reason your tires look massive compared to mine
