I have been lurking on this forum the past couple of years. I have always wanted a Tacoma or a 4Runner. I've owned a few Jeep Cherokees in the past and always knew a Toyota was where I wanted to be.
Fast forward to 2016 and I was in love with the 3rd Gen Tacoma. After making a random stop to the local Toyota dealership, my fiance and I brought home a new SR5 Tacoma. I used this truck to pull my 98 Integra Type R to the track so I did not get 4x4. NEVER will I ever buy another 2WD truck. Better to have and not need, then to need and not have. Here is a current pic of the Taco...
The Taco does a great job on road trips, camping trips at state parks/lakes, and hauling my MTB to the trails.
Fast forward a year later and I sold my Type R and bought a new 2017 4Runner TRD OR in matching MGM. Here it is at dinner the night I picked it up.
We took it out the next day to get an idea how it did stock on some local hills.
About a week later and 300 miles I took the 4R to discount tire to get the 285 KO2's mounted up.
After the tires were installed I rushed home to install my new lift.
No pictures of the lift process but I am running...
5100's
Wheeler's Offroad T1 & T13 coils and an OME 10mm spacer on driver side rear to help with lean.
Had lunch with my woman and had to snag a photo.
Ran into Bradley's SAS 4R when we went to dinner the other night.
Few weeks later my RCI Sliders showed up.
Sprayed them with some hammered spray paint to make for easy touch ups down the road. Turned out the paint almost matched the 4R color. Can said "Black".
During this progress, I attempted to grab a set of SCS Wheels during the restock and missed out. I was hoping to snag some F5's or Ray10's. Oh well... Tacoma_Brad posted up some NV's that I couldn't pass up.
Did some mount chopping to prepare for the new wheels. I am running BORA 1.75" spacers. No rubbing with stock wheels but I wanted to make sure they would not rub with the new 17x8.5 NV's. My good friend, Mark from Origin Fabrication did the work.
Here is Brad's truck when we met to grab the wheels...
Ran over to Discount Tire right after getting the wheels to have them mounted up. Then headed over to the pool to relax.
I hit up the local MTB trails later that afternoon. The wheels really change the look of the vehicle. They will do fine until I snag some Ray10's.
Couple weeks later I packed her up for the Appalachian Toyota Round Up at Wind Rock Park in TN.

ATR 2017 was a blast! I will update some more pictures but here is a quick video I put together of Trail 30 on Sunday. This was the first dry trail I had been on at Wind Rock in 12-13 years. Being a brand new vehicle I chose something easy to help get used to it. The day before we took easy moderate trails due to the rain and mud.

Appalachian Toyota Round-Up 2017 was a great time. This was my first time getting the 4R on some real trails and seeing how it did.
Friday night we showed up about 12 am to an extremely muddy field. I was instantly thankful I had an RTT. Setup was easy and a few beers later I was passed out in the tent listening to rain beat against the roof.
The next morning we got up to see the swamp/mud hole we were parked in. It was a great time. I even lost a shoe in the mud at one point.
After the drivers meeting, we met at the general store to air down and hit the first of the easy-moderate trails. It was nice having an ARB tire deflator. Once I figured it out I had the tires down to 12 psi in no time.
The trails were very wet and muddy. I was instantly impressed with how well the KO2's performed with A-Trac. What could have been messy ended up being a walk in the park up to the overlook.
Plenty of mud holes to drive through...
At the top I was able to hit a decent hill climb and then flex on a rock.
When we got back to camp we decided to snag an empty campsite that had grass, gravel, and a picnic bench. My fiance, Brooke, had to draw the line somewhere and going back to the mud hole was not an option.
We used our ground tent as a base camp to unload and keep things dry.
The next morning we ended up riding with a group of 12-14 vehicles on some more challenging Moderate trails.
I am still amazed how easy everything was in the 4R. It has been a long time since I've done any offroading so getting used to the vehicle and improving my skill and technique will take some time.
Great view on Sunday since the weather cleared up.
Saw this beauty Saturday afternoon.
Gotta love the fab work here.
Headed out with Jared from CVT. Brooke won a CVT Awning in the raffle! Big shout out to Bobby and Jared for the awning!

How'd you do getting up the small ledge at the end of 30? From the pics, it looks like you were setting up for it. We came up to a large group hanging out right there when we were coming to the end.
Can you use them as a step to load items on the roof? Do you mind measuring how far they stick out from the 4runner?
Thanks!
Love the RCI sliders. After seeing some other options in person, I am completely satisfied with my purchase. The 45 deg up angle helps tuck them in a bit and allow great clearance.
I use them all the time when setting up my RTT. The woman uses them to get in the 4R also. No measurements but I'll keep it in mind next time I am in the garage and update.

The video I had posted up in my second post has the footage of the ledge at the end. I made it up pretty easy. At first, I got the truck a bit on an angle but next time it will be a walk in the park. I was surprised how easy it went up compared to some of the FJs in our group.

Chocolate chip pancakes and hot coffee. The perfect way to start the day. Wish I had a fancier setup, but this got the job done.

Haha yes those rocks worked perfect! Thanks for following along.
Just order 6112/5160 along with wheelers T12 coils all from Wheelers Off-road. It’ll be a nice bump from the 5100 setup. Looking forward to comparing the ride.
Currently planning our December trip out to Colorado. It’ll be our first time and we are driving in the 4R and spending a week out there!

I went to a Tacoma tech day last weekend. Good 10 vehicles showed up. 2 4R and the rest were Tacomas. I replaced an LED fog light that had a bad connection. Not too techy.

Received my new F5's in 17x9 -38. Sold the NV's and wheel spacers. No good shots except this one outside of a Florida Georgia line concert last weekend.
Might be heading out to AOP with some of the Tacoma guys in two weeks. Hopefully get this thing off road again.
