5th Gen Front pasenger side squeak/rattle?

2016 Limited, 19000 Mi and recently it has developed a tiny rattle/squeak coming from the front passenger area. Seems to be mostly around at 35MPH

Its driving me nuts as I take back roads to work. I tried pressing on everything, took everything out of the glove box etc. had the G/F try and listen and press stuff, no luck.

Anyone else have this and if so were you able to locate and fix it?

I know better than to have the dealer take a look...

Thanks!

Thanks for the link. I'll check some of those things.

Today it was pretty loud. So I pressed a bunch of stuff. I'm thinking at least part of is is the big Nav bezel. Now to search for how to remove it.

Get someone to ride with you to help find it. Had a squeak issue on ours and it was the two rubber wedge bumpers on the rear hatch. Wiped them off and put a light coat of silicone grease on them and that solved the problem. Wife swore it was coming from the passenger side.

I’m piggybacking on this thread in hopes somebody has had this experience. My front passenger seat (2017 SR5) shakes and rattles over bumps. I don’t so much mind the shaking except that it causes a pronounced rattle as the seat continues to shake. Only happens when the seat is empty due to lack of weight. And I can stop the shaking/rattling by holding the seat back. The floor bolts are tight. I’ve removed the 4 caps. I am not certain what is rattling. I vaguely remember reading about faulty rails/frames that needed replacing. Any experience or thoughts?? I may have to take it in but I’m really hoping I can shut this rattle up myself. Thank you!

I have this on my 18 LE and my 14 LE... only happens when no one is sitting in the passenger seat. I can stop it by putting my arm behind the passenger head rest and it stops rattling. Annoying.

I wanted to share with you what I did to shut my seat rattle up. Just in case it will help you. I don’t have pics yet but I was able to isolate the plastic piece that was rattling when my passenger seat shakes. If you can locate the long plastic trim piece that runs along the outside seat track/rail between the end caps, that was the piece making the noise/rattle for me. It’s the piece that almost looks to rest along the carpet but actually sits in and around the seat rail. Nearest the door. I could mostly reproduce it by banging on my seat back to simulate bumps in the road. I just put my ear down there and banged on the seat back while parked. Seats shakes pretty good. When I held that piece firm the seat still shook but the plastic rattle was minimized a lot. Almost silent. I couldn’t totally remove that trim piece but if you pull the end caps you will see how you can loosen it up by releasing a clip on the front side. I loosened it up and applied felt along the top of the trim piece and resecured it. Rattle seems to be gone. I wish the seat was more secure but at least the rattling is solved. You may have a different cause for your rattle but you might consider this if you haven’t yet. Hope it helps.

Will give this a shot this weekend. Easy enough for me to reproduce the noise...just drive on a bumpy road (easy pickings where I live) w/o someone in the passenger seat. Thanks for the help.

Good luck. I had trouble hearing exactly where it was rattling while driving. I found that I could park, open the passenger door and bang on the seatback with my fist. When the seat shook (and continued to shake) I could pinpoint the rattle better and push on the trim piece to see if it made a difference. Let me know if you need a pic or have questions about loosening that piece up to insulate.

My transfer case lever rattles sometimes when stopped at a light. I pull it toward me, and it stops. I have to find a fix some how..

I had a really annoying squeak coming from the front passenger side for months. To fix it, I removed the windshield wipers and the plastic cowling under the windshield. Then I wrapped the bottom of the windshield with tesa tape. Put it back together and haven't had a squeak since.

That is interesting. I guess the tape just insulates the cowling from rattling against glass, eh? Can you see the tape once the cowling is installed? I'm pretty sure my remaining passenger side rattle that I haven't found yet is originating in the glove box area or passenger door area. Fixing the front seat trim rattle is soooo much better, though.

This stuff: TESA THICK FLEECE 51616 Auto Wire Harness Adhesive Electrical Tape 32mm x 7.5m 4042448181060 | eBay

It's probably a knock off, but it works

Yeah, it's weird because my squeak would come and go, so it was hard to locate. I thought it was coming from my dash for a long time. I tried so many fixes, but only the tape worked.

No, you can't see the tape once the cowling is installed. If I remember correctly, I also ran the tape up on the sides of the windshield about 4-5 inches because there are rubber pieces on the edges that I also suspected of causing the squeaks.
