Deflector

I had my front and partial hood wrapped by XPell clear bra and than added an AVS bug deflector. The Xpel does a gray job of keeping the front end and headlights from getting nicks and dings.
Not sure if the bug deflector is actaully helping or not, but I can't see it doing any harm so I keep it on.

Hood protector/ Bug deflector recommendations

I've been running the AVS for two years now. I love it. A clear bra will certainly provide better overall protection but these do serve a function. The fit and finish is right on par.

Thanks
I had AVS and got a great deal with Toyota OEM.. I like how the oem is not as bulky as the AVS...

I have the AVS sitting here.. 20 bucks plus shipping paid by you I will be willing to send it out?

Let me know..

Tried finding the post a couple months back where the 4Runner owner said his AVS hood deflector II was rubbing on the paint on the surround around the grill. Just checked mine and took it off because it was also resting on the paint on the grille surround below the front of edge of the hood. Its true it doesn't touch the paint on the hood itself but it does touch the grille surround under it.

Looked and looked for the post but could not find. The forum member even posted pictures of the paint damage that he was going to the dealer about.

So thanks whoever you were for the heads up.

Does anyone know if the oem deflector touches the paint on the grille surround? Thanks Jim

I have a AVS on my 2016 SR5. I didnt think it really did much for bugs or rocks until...a construction big rig dropped a rock, (little smaller than a golf ball) and was deflected by the AVS from hitting my windshield. Lucky I guess

The AVS 25053 will eat the paint off the top of the grille surround as well as indent the interior grille shroud.

I don't see how. I had one for 5 years on my last truck, no damage. Just put one on my new 4Runner.

The screws stick down and can contact the upper grill surround.
It can be mitigated my raising the hood bumpers up a bit.

I have a Weathertech, and it's going on my 3rd Gen5 Runner when it gets to the dealership sometime in the next 10 days or so.
Weathertech has sent me the hardware kit twice now.

While it won't necessarily deflect rocks, it it pretty good for bugs, especially when driving in Indiana..

Took my OEM bug shield off about a year ago on my 17 4runner. Took it off to clean under the brackets and noticed my hood paint where those brackets rest were damaging the paint. Does anyone know a way to resolve this? I’d love to have it back on because it looks good, but it’s not worth the damage it does to the paint.

Someone on here posted something about a 3m wrap or tape that they put all over the front of their 4runner. You pretty much couldn't see it. I am interested in it but I have no clue what it is or what it's really called. I would think the weather tech bug deflector would work well, I would like to see one on a Mag grey 4Runner so I would know what it looks like before buying. I am going for a blacked out look.

I think I saw that post about the 3M a long time ago. If I remember correctly, I don’t think the user had a part number or name. Every 3M I find at local stores is double sided sticky tape. Maybe I’m looking in the wrong section

This is exactly why I I bought weather tech. Dealer tossed in oem deflector. I went to install it and no matter what you do the metal brackets swivel. I figured the 3m tape would only last so long. Took it off and got weather tech that works great even in the car wash I go through

Which weathertech deflector is that? Their website lists a "hood protector" and a "stone and bug deflector". Have a part number you can share?
