Hood protector/ Bug deflector recommendations
I have a 2016 SR5 and I would like to buy a hood protector on it to protect against stone chips. Any recommendations on brand? Considering OEM, AVS, and WeatherTech. Would like to get one that can't potentially harm the paint on the leading edge of the hood (I hear the OEM one does that sometimes but I'm not sure).
Thanks

Bug deflectors don't offer much in protection in my opinion. I feel like they send whatever bounces off them right into your windshield. Go with a clear bra or a hood wrap. That will act as a layer of protection and if you go with a wrap, you can help get rid of the hood glare as well and its easily removable and does a pretty good job of protecting the paint.

I have the AVS on my 2016 and like it a lot. It was on sale at Pep Boys for about 40 bucks.

Hood protector/ Bug deflector recommendations
I've always used them to protect the leading edge of the hood from stone chips and the ensuing rust/corrosion.
That being said my runner has a weathertech deflector on. The first thing I noticed was the mounting hardware. They supplied plastic grommets and stainless screws which is light years better than the plastic mounting plugs that came with the previous deflector I had on my Ram, which eventually loosened and couldn't be tightened again.

I have Weather Tech on mine. Fit and finish is great and installation is a breeze.

Clear bra. There's a lot more paint up front to be chipped other that the front edge of the hood. The clear bra can cover almost all of it. They can deteriorate over time and look like cheap, but then you just remove or replace it.

AVS Bugflector II - Mounts to the underside of the hood and doesn't touch the painted surface at all. I plan to eventually get a 3M clear bra or some other paint protection so this was a cheap temporary solution.

I bought the AVS one off of Amazon for a little less than $40.
Mounting is super easy. Took maybe 1 min and nothing is rubbing. I removed the AVS sticker badge so it looks OEM.

I'm gonna do 3M paint protection film on the bumper and grill surround. Glad to hear nothing about the deflector damaging the paint. So I'm buying the AVS deflector only because it's the cheapest. Thank you everyone

Just installed the protector today and I really like it. Pretty much exactly what I was looking for as it doesn't touch the paint at all. Got the AVS Bug Deflector II btw. Will post pics soon.
