Cost for shocks and springs with KDSS

Hi guys. I need Bilstein 5100's installed on all 4 corners along with new rear springs. Dealer quoted me $981 and $90 for alignment. Sounds really high to me, anyone else have this done or any idea what I should be paying?

well those are stealership prices. Average prices are around the 600 mark, and that includes installing (UCA, shocks/springs, diff drop, skidplate drop, bumpstops, etc). alignment, warrantee, and adjustment (for suspension settling).

does that price include the price of the shocks and springs? lol......

well if a Toyota warrantee is worth it to you, then maybe it is worth it to you. Otherwise, range is from 350 to 600 from what I've seen in my area. (350 from your neighborhood shadetree mechanic, to 600 from a reputable offroad shop)... Good luck man.

That does seem high. I paid a San Antonio dealer $470 for the installation including alignment in 2014. No rear springs at the time, but those are 1 hour labor maybe.

5100 + 1.5 rear spacers with KDSS Install

I'm in the same situation, got a quote for 1100 from solid local mechanic place, working on two more, will report back. Frankly, I would do it but not too keen on fooling with spring compressors. Plenty of solid instructions here, might take it on with some adult supervision from the gear head across the street. After getting quoted 350 an axle for pads and a un-necessary rotor turn by the dealer, I wont be going there.

I got a quote for $600 parts and labor for 5100s front only. The rears are super easy and should be even cheaper.

Thanks guys, WTD, please post up what else you get quoted. If I didn't have KDSS, I wouldn't be as concerned about taking it to the dealer. Am I worrying about nothing? Can a local shop deal with KDSS?

Find some guys local to you and pay them in beer and pizza. Cost of my lift, install and alignment was around 2k. about $1600 for the lift and $400 for install. I had a friend who is a mechanic help me install it. Front shocks, uca, rear shocks and rear spring and mounted tires and balanced them for me too. If you had the right tools and can follow instructions, you can probably do it yourself. Would be a good opportunity to learn more about your rig. Good luck!

I installed 5100's all around this weekend on my 17 with KDSS. I followed the method I found on here without the need for a spring compressor. Really not that hard to do. A compentent shop should be able to do the job in 4-5 hours max.

I had a friend who is a Toyota tech do it for me. Cost me $200 and took him less than 3 hours. This won't help with the price but may help you negotiate hourly rate if a shop is claiming it takes much longer than that.

Diana- I'm curious. "I need Bilstein 5100's installed on all 4 corners along with new rear springs." The truck is only 3 years old. Is this a "need" or a "want"? If you're doing 5100's i don't think you have to replace rear springs (depending on settings). If you just do the shocks on the rear the install is way easier. You will have to swap out the coil springs on the front though. If I'm wrong i'm sure someone will chime in to correct me.

Hi CMS; it is a want and a need I bought some 285's, definitely a want, lol, and, I want to give them a bit more room.

I guess I will attempt this myself. I don't trust too many people to work on my cars, and, thanks to you guys, I know the dealership is raping me. Thanks again, I'll update the thread as soon as it's completed.
