Enjoying a little overlanding in GA

Enjoying a little overlanding in GA-img_1796-jpg

Spent the weekend covering the Georgia Traverse with a fellow 4Runner. Great time. Highly recommend the Tray Mountain section!

I’ve been wanting to do this. How was the whole ride through GA?

Awesome to see some fellow Georgians on here!

How tough of a road is Tray Mountain? I really want to get up to check out some of the forest roads in north GA but worried about finding something that’s doable in a stock truck. Lift and tires just aren’t in the budget right now...

Glad ya’ll had a good time!

The best part is the beginning from SC to Tray Mountain. The last half heading to AL is a mixed bag.

It’s pretty hairy. I noticed on a different group that a Ford 150 got hung up and an SOS was sent out last night to see if someone could drive out there and recover.

Where do you guys usually go? I'm located just south of Macon and have been looking for places to get off-road

Hmm... Tray Mountain may have to wait for now then.

Any experience with Charlie’s Creek? Seen some about it online, mostly on Jeep forums. Seeing that it was once a pretty tricky trail but has been graded so is much more tame now. I’m just getting the itch to get this thing off pavement

I did Tray a couple weeks ago and I would recommend not doing the Chimney Mountain side with a stock vehicle. The other side is fine (we saw a Subaru going up).

Charlie's Creek, on the other hand, is easy. I saw some stock pick up trucks doing it. It's a good 1st trail and it was my first adventure off road. It's always a fun trail to do with the creek crossing.

There is an Atlanta 4Runner Facebook group if y'all are interested. Message me if interested.

I'll be moving to Atlanta next year. Good to see I'll have some 4Runner enthusiasts to BS with.

I really need to get back out to Tray Mtn to see what all the fuss is about. Its been a few years, but I did the whole thing in 2wd. Chimney Mtn side too. It wasn't anything special.

I haven't been to many of these local trails lately, as most of the wheeling I've been doing is at parks.

Let me know when you want to go. I've been wanting to check it out as well.

Also, good group of Toyotas heading up to AOP this weekend. I think 5 of us from the Canton area will be going.

I saw y'all were going up to AOP. You're going up with Thomas and Josh? I'm actually going up to AOP the following weekend with a few guys from around Kennesaw area.

Yea Josh has rounded us up to make the trek. Should be a good time if the weather holds out. I have never been to AOP.

Y'all have fun! I've heard their trail ratings are lot tougher than most of the parks around. Blues rate about the same or more than Blacks at a few other parks.

I'm pumped for it. I've got to straighten out a few skids before we head up there. I really need to brace the front skid some.

Some of my favorite places to wheel around Atlanta are Beasley Knob and Choccolocco Mountain ORV Park:
Beasley Knob is ~1.5hrs from Atlanta and depending on when it was last graded can be anywhere from easy to difficult. I still have yet to try the infamous 93B because I think it has been closed.
Choccolocco Mountain is ~2hrs away from Atlanta (just across the Alabama line), and is a much bigger and more challenging park. I don't dare do anything more than a easy/medium trail here in my 4r.
