He's right. Go with 17" rims.
I will be selling my 2015 Trail Edition, 17x7.5" wheels and stock tires by the first of the year. I'm getting 17x8.5 ICON wheels so I can mount 285/70/17 wider and taller tires. The tire manufacturers recommend an 8" to 9" rim for that size. The SCS Stealth 6 17x8.5" wheels also looks good to me and they are very lightweight, which is good for reducing the unsprung weight, preserving power and braking.
I'm in So Cal and you're in Florida, so buying my wheels and tires may not be a good option for you. Shipping cost would be prohibitive.
