Switch the car chargers to USB chargers, anyone?

Has anyone switched out the old style car chargers in the back seat for USB chargers?
I would assume it wouldn't be that busy of an install, but I am not sure.

Cheers

If direct fit existed I would, otherwise plugging in the adapter is not a big deal.

High speed cell charging is evolving. Hard wire USB does not make sense to me.

So your backseat passengers going to carry around their wireless chargers with a car adapter?

I don't know many people who carry around a car charger in their pocket. I do know several people that carry around their usb cable though.

I'm not in the back seat often, but if I recall correctly, I have NO ports back there at all. no 12v, no 110v, no USB no nothing.

Cargo area has a couple of ports.....110v and 12v I believe. It just easier to get some adapters and 10 foot cords and keep them ready for passengers that can't handle their juice properly.

I have 2 12 volt cigarette lighter plugs in the back seat behind the center console

I could be wrong but I don't think the rear seat ports showed up until the 2014 facelift. And I carry a spare usb adapter like linked above should the need arise. My wife is notorious for getting in there and needing to plug into the dedicated single cable I have in the front.

I've got this same one plugged into the center console and the cables run through the indentation in the lid. Keeps my phone charged at all times.

IIRC on my 2016 thru Gulf States ditributor the rear ports were a distributor installed option at the port.

i think they are talking about how it was 0.5A, then 1A, then 2.4A and now you've got 5A+ usb charging

if you hardwire something now it won't be future proof

the aukey adapters sit flush and will do 2.4A per outlet, just get those

if you really want dedicated USB, hardwire new ones instead of converting the factory

There is a OEM looking mod out there if your feel adventurous definitely not worth the price when you can source your own parts and do it cheaper . Rear Dual USB Charging Port 4runner (00012-01569-02) Rear Dual USB Charging Port 4runner 00012-01569-02
