Like others have said, a good set of AT tires and call it done. I would disagree with going with an E rated tire though if you only plan on doing moderate trails and it’s your dd. I know a lot of people sware by E rated tires saying their vehicle rides so much better with them and so on but the truth is you end up with a worse ride and worse fuel economy. In addition, you shouldn’t need to worry too much about sidewall punctures on moderate trails. I think a P or SL rated AT would suit your needs just fine as it would for most people even though they convince themselves they need something more.

I had two sets of tires and wheels on my 07 FJ Crusier both Generals. Grabber HTS for the road, Grabber AT2 for winter and fire roads.
PITA switching back and forth. Won't go to that expense again so I'm considering Cooper AT4S or General Grabber ATX to replace the factory Dulaps.
Any thoughts anyone?

There are 100000 tire threads on here all of which have differing opinions of what's good or bad, what balances well, how they perform in rain and snow, etc. Best you get what tires you want and let it rip.

FWIW, both of those are good options. As are Falken AT3W, KO2s, and Nitto Ridge Grapplers.

I have never lived in a latitude where I had to have two sets. We get snow but some years we get none.

We live in the Pennsylvania mountains with a half mile gravel drive back to our house. I'm an old fart (74) so we need a vehicle and tires to get us out in God forbid we have to make the 14 mile drive to the hospital.
That's why I'm considering changing out the factory street tires for something a bit more reassuring.

Any of those I mentioned will be considerably better in adverse conditions than the factory tires. I only have experience with BFGoodrich KO2s and love them. Price wise, Falkens and General are the cheapest, but both are great choices too.

I’ve been happy with my Yokohama G015 A/T, but in 255/75R17 (32”, spacer lift at the time and minor trimming required). They also make it in a 265/65R17, and in both sizes it has a 3-peak severe snow service rating, so it’s good year-round.

(255/80R17 Toyo tires (33”) in my signature line pic)

a few points in favor of sticking to one set of wheels/tires

- tire life - treadwear isn't an issue. you don't run track tires on the street primarily because they're soft and will wear out too quickly. off road tires don't really have this problem

- noise - an A/T like the KO2s put out some volume, but it's a white noise that isn't really perceptible unless you're listening for it. by no means is it offensive sounding like a 200tw or below tire. M/T are louder in this regard but still not as bad as something like an RE71r on the street

- labor - a stock SUV wheel/tire combo is 60+ pounds, if you go with a forged wheel and C load tire you minimize weight gain, but a standard aftermarket wheel with a M/T is probably going to be pushing 100 pounds per wheel/tire. multiple that by 5 every time you have to rotate or switch. it's considerably more effort compared to swapping out a set of sports car wheels/tires

- storage - in addition to weight, an extra set of SUV wheels/tires also takes up a lot more space compared to sports car spec. you're definitely not going to be hanging your spare set up high on a wall rack when not in use

I run stock size BFG All Terrain T/A KO2’s.

If you only run off road maybe once annually, than in my opinion dedicated trail tires and road tires make sense. Albeit inconvenient and costly up front.

However, there are many good to great all terrain tires available that will work 24/7 for all seasons and weather. This forum is filled with tire discussions for your reference to the best.

I like my BFG tires for their multi-ply sidewalls for puncture resistance. I run load range E because they have more tread plies. I regularly run maintained and semi maintained dirt roads where I live, I hate flat tires due to stone punctures. Those few times that I do get punctures, I’ve never had a complete flat; always enough air left that I can plug and fill or get my 4Runner to town to have the dealer do it (free flat repair). They are good in snow, but not in mud. I’ve run BFG All Terrain T/A series of tires successfully on three 4x4 vehicles over the decades.
