Some A750F transmission information

Hello,

This might be old news but I couldn't find it here.

I am contemplating (OK dreaming) the supercharger install for my 5th gen. I wanted to find the capacity of the drive line so i don't grenade things.

According to the SAE paper written in 2003 when this transmission was introduced the torque capacity is 500 n-m (368 Ft-Lbs) so the projected output of the 4.0 supercharged engine is way below the limits of the transmission.

Also, this transmission was used in the 2003-2007 100 Series Land Cruiser with the 4.7 V8. The 100 Series has a GVW of approximately 6800 lbs and towing capacity of 6500 lbs which is 700 and 1500 more than ours.

Good stats.

Thats a good spec on the drivetrain, makes sense to me.

I'm going to hold out for at least a year, I hope others have the where with all to install these sooner as I do see them as being a great mod to the 5th gen. I just want more real world tested feedback before I pull the trigger. (I got to demo drive a 2016 with the SC and it was incredible.)

We were recently in Colorado on vacation with all of our ski toys on the roof and a bunch of luggage in the rear, 2 adults, 2 kids and a dog. Even running up into the high altitudes (Pikes Peak and around Breckenridge) I really didn't get too upset with the power of the rig. Sure, it downshifted and stayed in low gears going up, but it sounds really good and not strained. I ran it up later in the trip in sport mode, and I was easier on the tranny IMO compared to letting it slow a lot and then lurch in the kickdown. The only place I really wanted the extra grunt was on 2 lane roads where there were a lot of short passing zones due to blind hills and turns. The big boys in their Duramaxes and V8 pickups went around me while I waited or just backed off since I didn't want to freak myself, or my passengers out.

One other detail per the system install is the front pulley/belt assembly had issues. It seems the belt came off a few times on the truck I mentioned above. Im not sure if Magnuson has updated the outgoing kits yet, so you may want to check in on that...anyone know?

Keep the stats coming, thanks!

The weak link is likely the rear axle. Toyota has never offered an SUV that I know of with a v8 with an 8" rear axle that wasn't awd. I have been curious about swapping in a 100 series or 200 series rear axle as part of an upgrade. Diamond axle makes a bolt in housing to use a 9.5 rear diff. That would be part of the plan for adding a supercharger to a non-limited model for me.

Unless you come up with a way to turn off torque managment... you won't need a bigger diff outside of 4Lo. The added power is not a problem in the higher gears as the torque at the wheels is greatly reduced.

Even though the kit adds lots of usable power there is plenty of ECU nannies limiting stress on the trans and drive-line.

I'd guess 4lo is where the problem will be. I've never snapped a pinion in 4hi. But I have broken one (yukon) with a 100hp 4cyl in a 3500lb truck in only 2.7 low range. The 8.2 is pretty stout for its size. But 400ft/lbs and 5000+lbs of vehicle weight is asking a lot from a pretty small differential. Time will tell how they handle the extra power. On the bright side - the swap to a 9.5 is pretty reasonable cost wise. And it also opens up the universe of gearing that the 8.2 doesn't have. You could probably even sell the e-locker 8.2 rear axle for a big portion of the swap cost.
