Wind Noise - Driving Me Crazy

Hi all -

I've been driving around for while now with some horrible wind noise that I cannot pinpoint where it's coming from. I did have a windshield replaced a few months ago, but the noise was there prior to the replacement.

I have read on some other posts about window visors being the culprit, so I ended up taking mine off (which was a pain), but that didn't resolve the issue.

I do have a bug deflector, but don't think that would cause noise in the cabin (would it)?

i know it's hard to tell without getting someone to crawl around the dash while I drive, but here's a clip that I recorded on my drive to work this morning.

Annoying Wind Noise

If anyone has any suggestions or advice on this, please let me know -- this is driving me up the wall

Sound volume is a subjective thing...but do you have roof rack crossbars? Those can cause some wind noise. I have window deflectors and crossbars, but the amount of wind noise isn't excessive to me.

No...sure don't. No crossbars or wind deflectors. I don't mind little noise, but this is like a huge mosquito in my ear.

Does it go away with rolling any windows down? May be hard to tell of course since then you get that wind noise. Just wondering if maybe it’s a seal somewhere.

when I purchased my 2000 GM silverado I had wind noise @70 MPH..

so I used painters tape to find the issue.. issue was the gap around the windshield .. got some black vinyl tape issue solved ..that is how you find this ..

so july 2016 new T4R wind noise ... I look at windshield ,, gap between the metal and the glass.. placed tape over it problem solved .

other noise ,, tapping is from the plastic section of the cabin air intake under hood , on top of the fire wall , that maybe loose and wind causes it to make noise.

I do not have that issue yet.. but the plastic retainers are very soft so over time that may be an issue.

both roof racks max fwd location ... very quiet ..

No..I tried rolling windows down, pressing against the windshield (from the inside) and pressing the dash in various places..not luck.

..this is a great idea! I'll put painters tape around the windshield, in sections, to try to determine if it is coming from the windshield.

I'll post results.

There was a period a few years ago when there were several threads complaining of wind noise. This turned out to be the outside mirrors.
IIRC, you could prove it by driving with them folded. I noticed my '18 has two or 3 small airfoils molded into the mirror frame my '10 didn't have.

If your Google foo is strong, you might find something.

Also, I'd sure try taking that bug deflector off.

I had a similar issue with my wifes last car. We were driving all the way up California, and it became more and more annoying as the hours passed until I became obsessed with stopping it. I pulled over and started shoving pieces of fast food napkins in every place that looked like air could flow into. I kept doing this until the noise finally went away. What it turned out to be on this car was the little gasket that sits under the front of the roof rails. I guess it stuck out from the roof rail just enough to start flapping in the wind. When I got home I just put a dot of silicone on it and it went away for good. Maybe look for anything like that?

I'd just blame it on that hood scoop...

Thanks for all the suggestions... certainly a lot of things I can try. I'll post back with results.

Dang! That is annoying!

I also thought it sounds like a intermittent bug buzz...

My 2017 Off Road noise ended up being this problem, make sure it's not your issue as well.

My "windshield creak/tick" and how I fixed it.
