Gobi Rack and Maxtrax mounting

I know Gobi sell their own Maxtrax mount, but like all Gobi products, they are very expensive.

MAXTRAX ATTACHMENT BRACKETS - STEALTH - 4RUNNER

Anyone use a cheaper mount and just mount them to the mesh deck with bolts, nuts, and washers? Want them side mounted and not flat on the roof taking up a lot of space.

Looking at this and I think it would work fine (at $50 less):

I just lay my cheapo recover tracks on top of my gobi and use big reusable zip ties on each end and then use 2 bungee cords to secure mine. Does the trick and is obviously a cheap solution.

You could always run to home depot and fashion something with L brackets, nuts, bolts and wing nuts to achieve something very similar. But when its all said and done buying them may be just as easy!

A bolt, two washers, and a spinny knob (technical term) in each corner and I was good to go. I also add a cheap gun cable lock to deter the walk by theif. Sorry for the garland, it was Christmas time.

Thanks, looks good. I did specify that I wanted -- "Want them side mounted and not flat on the roof taking up a lot of space."

You sure did. Sorry about that. I was in a hurry to leave and skipped that line before posting.
