Remote start

Hi
23 4Runner SR5. I hit the lock button 3 times and hold the button on the third time. 4 ways flash but it doesn’t start. I had a 21 Tacoma that would start using that same process. Seen videos that also say that should work. Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks
Hoss

Likely you don’t have the feature. My 2022 Off Road Premium didn’t either. When I called Toyota, they said only the Limited and Pro came so equipped.

I installed this plug & play kit in about a half hour. Works great, although the vehicle shuts off when you open the door (just like the factory system). I liked the ease of install.

I have watched the video of this system being installed
I have also watched the video of the OEM Toyota remote start system being installed
How did this Start X company do the same thing Toyota did with 1/5th the wiring and 1/10th the install time? You have to completely disassemble the whole interior in your T4R, drivers door sill and kick panel, entire lower dash and radio, glove box, passengers kick panel and door sill plate, and its a multi-hour install. Why the crap is Toyotas system so dang busy and difficult.
Been looking at both, i much prefer the OEM stuff every chance i get but for double the price and 4x the labor, i am probably going to go with the Start X kit.

I removed the glove box with a handful of screws, removed the lower trim panel next to the climate controls (one screw and some clips) and plugged it in. Super simple. Took 30 minutes.

I liked it so much I installed one on my sons Jeep and he installed one on his sisters Jeep.

I usually prefer OEM also, but I’m very pleased with this system and its price.

Only the US Pro Bros and Limited have remote start and only after a certain year.
