Should the DRL light intensity of LEDs be the same as high beams?

I installed 9005 LEDs with CANbus from XenonDepot the other day. I thought they looked especially bright and I tried flashing my high beams and the intensity stayed the same. I know from the factory the voltage is reduced for DRLs. Did I install them wrong?

a lot of 9005 bulbs don't have a DRL mode. If you use a canbus adapter of sorts, usually forces DRL mode to full power.

They will be acting high beams and full intensity. 9005 LED replacement bulbs arent dimmable, so when they are on - they're high beams

Dang. I hope I'm not blinding anyone at dusk.

I have the DDM tuning saber leds which actually do dim with DRL, but they are still fairly bright. I recommend keeping them off during dawn/dusk so you're not "that guy"

I just looked up DDM and they say they're 3000 lumens vs 1750 lumens for the XenonDepot 9005s, so your "dim" is probably the same as mine at full power. Do you ever get flashed? I don't really want the hassle of turning my DRL off at dusk...

I've never been flashed but the only time it does seem to be an issue is with mini drivers. Whenever I end up behind one they tend to get upset and adjust their rear view mirror lol

There is actually a lengthy discussion on this:
DDM Tuning Saber LED for DRL / High

When I was looking at lights, I Facebook messaged Xenon Depot and this was the response:

"High beams: Your vehicle uses the same bulb for the Daytime running lights and high beams. You can install our 9005 LED kit in this application, however please keep in mind that an LED bulb cannot dim like your halogen bulb. This means that the bulb will be on at fully intensity during the day -- which may be too bright. A way to get around it is to shut off your DRL. This is the 9005 kit: http://www.xenondepot.com/9005-Xtreme-LED-kit-pro-p/xt-led-9005-pro.htm"

Because of this, I'm looking at the DDM Saber LEDs that a previous poster mentioned.

Just turn the DRL off and you won't have to worry about it or disable them completely.

I don't think DDM LEDs are going to be much different on DRL mode, but they are brighter in high beam mode, so that's a plus at least.

Shoot. I looks like even the DDM ones are a little too bright. I'll probably disable my DRLs the first time I notice someone adjusting their mirror.

I am running the xenon depot led in my high beams. They are always at full power. I have about 8k on them so far and haven’t been flashed by anyone yet.

DDM sabres do dim with DRL on, but I noticed mine were flickering when on DRL setting. I ended up doing the DRL delete connector pin mod since I didn't really care for DRL's anyway.

high beams on during the day are still annoying, disable DRL
