As for cost,, look at how much we spend on less practical mods. 200$ is chump change compared to some of the stuff I have done, Like the 2K I just spent on a front bumper and winch.

^Be curious to know this too. I saw they have a remote location adapter, which to me make the most sense. I can’t imagine screwing a 4” tall filter directly to the adapter, seems like a scary scenario even with skids (if it even fits?), one good hit...

There's about an inch of clearance, the filter sets pretty far forward so it would take a really high and hard hit to make contact at that point in the skid. A remote would be an option but I didn't want to mess with the lines and the extra cost.

Oil-related failure will only concern the engine, and that will be expensive. They will say "no" and the owner will have to sure them for it. Engine work can exceed the small claims court limit, thus capping recoverable damages at that limit or requiring an attorney, which costs $$$.
So while you are correct, it may not matter. If Toyota says "no" then it gets ugly.

I don't expect there to be any issues with this mod,it was pretty simple and not near as complicated as say doing a front and rear lift, (not spacer). The Here is a couple of pics of the install. The Baxter part is very well made, heck it's a piece of art, and the Fram filter is highly rated.
So I used the Fram XG16 because it is the biggest I could comfortably install however, I did have to cut a un-used tab a bit to make sure there would be no issues when the engine flexes on the motor mounts, to 2 minutes to cut and paint. Baxter recomends the Mobil M1-102 filter which is plug and play. I wanted more surface area so I went with the XG16.
Here is a couple of pics of the install.
Baxter installed.
The piece cut from the un-used tab. About 2"x.5"
Where the tab was cut.
Finished product,, tons of room and can still access the filter through the "door" in the RCI skid.

It was definitely on the expensive side and it doesn't come with -10AN lines or fittings for the lines (like the article in the Toyota Mag suggested). But it makes oil changes a lot easier. I used to have to take the skid plates off to get to the filter and it was a pain in the ass. Now, oil changes are a breeze.

Thanks, but I have to remount it soon. I ordered the Magnuson supercharger after this was installed only to realize it will interfere. It's okay though, I bought slightly longer lines that are black steel braided instead of that silver, which I like a lot better. So once Magnuson FINALLY starts to deliver their kits to California customers, I'll have to remote it somewhere.

My 2006 Tacoma 4.0 liter had the filter in that location. It was so easy to change. Never understood why Toyota changed it. Maybe cuz no one used the dealer to change the oil lol.

Sorry for the n00b question but did you find that you needed to add more oil due to addition of the oil lines? Also, can you post a pic from underneath?

This is a great idea. I wonder if you considered mounting the oil filter inverted, with the spin-on threads pointing down, so the oil doesn't drain out of the filter when you remove it? The -10AN fittings come with 90 and 180 degree bends so running the lines straight is fairly easy.
I see several choices in remote oil filter mounts on Amazon. What brand is this one and is it any better than the $25 to $50 remote filter mounts I see on Amazon? Baxter does not show remote filter mounts, just the spin-on fitting with hose connection ports.
As far as I can tell in a quick search, 4 fittings and 2 hoses might cost up to 4x$9 + 2x$25 = $86. The Baxter oil filter location adapter for the 4Runner, with hose fitting ports, cost either $180 or $230, depending on whether it's side fittings or straight down fittings. Either one could work.
Thanks,
Dave

The mount catches the oil as it drains (has a small spill tray) so having it facing up isn't an issue (in fact it makes filter changes even easier). This is the Baxter mount, here is the link to the product:
